mitboy
With the FPP and this new PPP pack it seems like there's a lot of focus on making alternative production lines and materials but after the midgame you end up doing the same thing: Resin and Nectar are alternatives to make plastic, but there's not really any new stuff to make *out of* plastic. Or Bammoths and Rhex are alternative ways to make fiber but not really new things to make out of fiber. Even enigmatic Iridium at the end still seems like just an alternative to Niobium. I feel like there should be more generic upgrades added alongside this stuff as well, like maybe a new set of wires, or more specialised but general use buildings akin to minipumps and such. I guess these might be better served as standard game additions rather than DLC specific things, yet it still feels a bit lacking. 3 1 Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/166072-theres-alternative-materials-but-not-more-things-to-make/ Share on other sites
gigamoi
I understand what you mean. Let me guess. You liked BBP a lot more? Yes? So do I. Yet when BBP came out, some found it to lack substance as it didn't provide them with a very different early to mid game experience. Those people stated at the time that they much preferred FPP. People will prefer one or the other depending on what they like to do in ONI. BBP provide far richer mechanics than FPP and PPP, and that's by design. BBP is a "booster pack" and the two others are "planet packs". Planet packs provides new biomes as to offer a new early to mid game experience, with perhaps a little challenge for your colony to deal with on top, while booster packs provide new tools, mechanics and alternative options for you to play with wherever/whenever you may in your game along what will essentially remain the same experience. As far as I am concerned, all I see in PPP are alternative resource pathways and I couldn't care less about demolior. Same goes for FPP. (I really loooove the geothermal pump though.) Don't get me wrong. I quite like for those new pathways to be there, but it as also true that an endless stream of planet packs would bore me to no end. Those who prefer contraption building, like me (and perhaps you), will tend to prefer booster packs while other may enjoy planet packs more. So yeah, as a DLC, it leave the both of us longing for more, but it was not meant to provide what we enjoy most. We are to wait for a booster pack for that and, as long as we also regularly get our fun, that's okey IMO. That being said, it is true that late game has essentially remained the same ever since the song of the moo update. Altering late game would be a challenging endeavor though as there are few things that players may still desire at that stage of the game and they are to be both balanced as to not be too OP and acquired/produced/provided in a novel way as to be entertaining to get/use. Carib94
Pretty much agree with Giga here I too am a player who speaks highly of BBP. But thing is many casual players dont really step foot to the late game most would reset or start a new colony before that. Many of BBP new additions(besides boops) can be centered for mid-late game use(robo pilot, remote dock, Data Miner, Atomic PwrBnks) the casual may never even bother using those new buildings, but a Planet Pack will force everyone to play what it has. 7 hours ago, mitboy said: Bammoths and Rhex are alternative ways to make fiber but not really new things to make out of fiber. I knew that the Rhex feather fiber would be used for suits but I actually hoped it would have been unique in being used as an ingredient for new fabrications that requires the feathers and not the standard reed fiber. 1 Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/166072-theres-alternative-materials-but-not-more-things-to-make/#findComment-1819127 Share on other sites
imazined
What if Rhex fibers would increase the atmo suit scalding threshold? I feel like Atmosuit's scalding threshold is already infinite if no magma work. There aren't really areas in temperature range of more than 700 but but less than 1500. Feathers would make sense for usage in decor or recreatioanal buldings more, perhaps. Farsight
Heh, even if it didn't do anything, it'd be worth it to have an anim of them flapping their arms as they fall after they dig the floor out from under themselves! Not a full jet suit but they can jump a bit further and wider which would also help with some critter builts. 1 Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/166072-theres-alternative-materials-but-not-more-things-to-make/#findComment-1819220 Share on other sites
PAX12Bruce
+1. Or a cloth made of Rhex fiber allows dup to dig/move/etc in the range of 5, instead of the common 4. imazined
And we're still missing the warm equivalent to the warm jacket from FPP Even tho I would like it not to be locked into a DLC Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/166072-theres-alternative-materials-but-not-more-things-to-make/#findComment-1819253 Share on other sites
