Twigs...

I know we can make rope out of grass, boards out of logs and blocks out of stone...I think we should be able to make something out of twigs, perhaps a wickerwork basket that works similar to the chest, but as only a single storage space?

A basket made out of twigs would be a logical addition and could offer a cheap way of limited storage so yeah, sounds like a good idea.

I wouldn't be against the idea of a cheap version of the chest, especially if you haven't unlocked the chest and/or you're short on the logs required to make wooden planks. But how would it compare for storage space? Maybe 1/2 as many spaces? Or only one space, but allowing you to place an entire stack... so a place to safely store vegetables so bunnies/birds don't eat them.

I would suggest 2 spaces per basket, that would give you a fairly decent storage solution for early on in the game.
