Ok, so far I can think of three critters, but there could be more.
My inspiration is a reef ecosystem.

+I was thinking something like a parrotfish which eats [Reef-like, and/or anemome-like creature], eggshells, or fossil, and produces lime and/or sand.

+An anemone-like "plant"/creature might eat germs (zombie-germs being the most interesting), rot piles, and polluted dirt.
-There critters might be edible by pacus as well but have some defenses like retreating into their shells.

+A reef-like coral polyp-like creature That requires light or radiation, and produces its own germs
-Maybe include a mechanic where these critters produce their own mesh tiles made of reef (grind for fossil/sand? or feed to parrot fish)

+lamprey-like or leech-like creatures that live off of host ocean fish critters.
These could either be on the germ layer or attach to critters and dupes.
-Still not sure what they might produce.

+I think a tiny critter swarm that exists on the germ layer might be interesting. Might have to rename the "germ" layer or have it just count as a "germ" for the purposes of some critters feeding requirement.
