If you light a flare below an object, when it flies up and explodes, it should do some damage to whatever is above.

For example, you could blow up/burn Dangling Depth Dweller nests in the ruins. Flares lit beneath a Buzzard flock would cause them to scatter and cause a few pieces of meat and feathers to rain down. Flares could shake up the leaves of Great Tree Trunks to drop twigs and grass, like a lightning strike.

It's a weird, niche use case, but it makes sense. The mechanic adds some extra interactivity.

Additionally, the hostile flare could work in more seasons than just winter, or on a boat. Let it summon Bearger or Moose/goose in autumn and spring. Especially summoning Bearger could be interesting, because it'd add the possibility of fighting Bearger in the first year/autumn. Of course Antlion can't really come to you if you light a hostile flare in summer. Maybe let it spawn a Varg in summer instead? Not sure.
