GimplyGoose
Quick preface to this suggestion: There have been quite a few discussion threads about removing or limiting Maxwell's ability to read Wickerbottom's books or use her library. In general, people aren't happy how Wickerbottom works as a 'swap' character with Maxwell being able to utilize nearly all of Wickerbottom's kit in some cases more effectively than her. Even though this is a problematic situation, I think nerfs to Maxwell's ability to read Wickerbottom's books would not be positively received. The suggestion: When Wickerbottom's skill set is released, all survivors should be able to utilize Wickerbottom's books to some extent. Most characters would be able to read and use the books with the same sanity penalty as Maxwell, with some exceptions (e.g. Wurt keeps her unique interactions, Woodie refuses to read "Birds of the world" since he hates birds, etc). I also think that Wickerbottom should have a skill set that enables her to excel at using her own books in ways beyond the capacity of Maxwell (or other survivors). I think a skill set similar to Winona's would work well for Wickerbottom. Most librarians want others to check out and read books from their library, so it would make sense that Wickerbottom would want to share her books with others. gaymime
ok, the idea of each survivour either having a book they can read for a tiny sanity boost OR a sanity drain sounds super adorable and i think a librarian would approve of that especially if there were a couple dummy books whose only purpose is to be read for a sanity-gain/loss since there are more survivors than books Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/165346-who-can-read-wickerbottoms-books/#findComment-1812363 Share on other sites
Pinru
But through these changes, Wicker Bottom's uniqueness will disappear, and books can be used to give her more opportunities to appear. I agree with that to some extent, but I think she has lost a lot of her 'uniqueness' by Maxwell being able to read her books and I don't think it would be very popular to remove that mechanic. I think there is a lot of room for a skill set to add 'uniqueness' back to Wickerbottom's. Like any character can activate one of Winona's catapult, but only Winona can use a remote to launch a planar strike. I think there would be more synergy with Wickerbottom's and more reason for her to be played (in a multi-player setting) if more characters could read and use her books.
