How can I more efficiently rush ruins/AFW questline bosses?

I figured I'd ask there to see what other people do in order to hopefully learn how to kill Fuelweaver before the 100+ day mark/More consistently clear out ruins early. Any character specific tips would also be appreciated.

back when i had 300-500 hours in the game, i didn't even know what the shadow pieces were, let alone wrapping my head around the questline and killing fuelweaver. the furthest i could've made was clearing (not rushing) the ruins

now at 1,100 hours, i can consistently rush the ruins and kill fuelweaver at around the 50-day mark. what changed in that time?

600+ hours of playing, practicing, and watching dst content. i would play short-term world, finish my goals, and then start over. ruins rushing now feels routine to me, and killing fuelweaver is a methodical process. i know what to do, what items do i need, and when i should do something.

there are guides that can help you find the ruins more consistently, if you do it enough times, it'll become an instinct

fighting bosses can be character-dependent, which characters do you like to play/main? i'm a walter

I start my longterm worlds with either Wolfgang or Wendy. Here is what I did:

1) Make an actual list in the steam notepad of what the bosses requirement are and what I need for the fight. I have included an example for Wendy. With Wolfgang there would be weatherpains in the list requiring me to kill moose/goose during spring.

2) While waiting for the world to generate develop a plan on how to aquire all the necessary things and in what order. A very common goal for people rushing FW is to assemble the shadowpieces by day 21 for example. This automatically encourages you to tame a beefalo during your first autumn both to find but also to move the pieces. So rather than think "I'm going to explore the map, then start a base, then get me some stonefruit" and suddenly realizing "Oh, right, how do I kill FW quickly now?" the entire gameplan is to kill FW and everything else derives naturally from that.

key, fossils, and heart, the big three of "aw man i forgot that thing that is absoooooooolutely required and now i have to backtrack through a painful atrium"

If I'm in a rush for content I always like to do a quick ruins clear, do some bosses like bq dfly and klaus on winter, then kill crab king and cc on spring and consequentially fuelweaver a few days after multiplying brightshade gear with green gems. If you tame a beefalo you can do things at 2x speed as well.

If you just practice this enough you're gonna be putting random bosses in the middle because of how much time left you would have. But your base is probably going to look like a mess by the end of it.

As everyone said practice is the key but maybe you need a bit more explanation of it.

If you're worried about the resources go Wolfgang the X2 DMG is always welcome also moving the pieces without a beefalo. The list of tasks is also a must be and put yourself a mark try to rush it up to day 50 or 60 then lower it o raise it.

AFW is a breakpoint due to his mechanics. Practice the run with the minimum equipment and preparation, use some speedruns to learn a bit more (anim cancel is not required so far just the fight). And then adjust your inventory to see what's the least minumun or max you'll need.

If the healer face of AFW is troubling you as Wolfgang use the dumbbells for AOE or try to get something that does this.

If a ruins clear is a must be remember to adjust your times to it. Most of the Speedruns just go with enough equipment and even without a ruins rush, just a AG kill for the kill.

Yes, animation canceling is not necessary. But you would be surprised by how quickly the human body can adapt to a mechanic if you just go beyond that little practice window. You will be doing it automatically and perfectly timed without even thinking about it.

Wilson, and Wormwood. Thanks for the response! Also planning to play a little more Warly, and Walter(Still hadn't gotten around to checking his skill tree despite having an instant positive reaction to the final version).

Spoiler

The wormwood plan is to not get hit in ruins, every hit costs precious living logs.

So you're playing Wormwood, the first tip I can give you is that the wilds biome can provide everything* to make compost warps

*if you get lucky with the nitre spawns from earthquakes.

Your best early healing source is bat bats/compost and later jellybeans.

Your easiest sanity sources are green mushrooms, cactus and abusing a sapling with a shovel,  but above all I recommend killing all shadow creatures for nightmare fuel outside of boss battles.

If you're planning to ruin rush as wormwood you can craft a shadow manipulator if you bring materials for a prestihatitator, try to wastle as little health as possible and go straight to kill ancient guardian with the loot from the labyrinth(if you bring materials for a hambat or manage to craft dark swords this would be better).

After you kill ancient guardian go for the repaired pseudoscience station and craft gear for the Beequeen fight & Shadow pieces; 4 thulecite crowns, star caller staff, deconstruction staff, magiluminescence amulet, and at least 2 thulecite club.

Craft the pickaxe if you want extra armors for the run and if you get to save 2 uses (40%) of the construction amulet it would be better for crafting two dreastone helmets after defeating the nightmare werepig.

after your trip to the ruins you can decide if you want to keep clearing the ruins for more purple gems for bat bats or thulecite for crowns. Leave the ruins and prepare for assembling the shadow pieces to fight them on day 21 on winter(craft a thermal stone beforehand because by that night the temperature will be low enough to freeze you during the fight).

After doing that you can decide if you want to fight fight fuelweaver on winter/spring/summer. plenty of time to do things before day 100.
