Am I crazy?

Recommended Posts

I've seen a lot of negative talk about the Switch version of DST, and I don't understand why. I've played it on PC a bunch then moved over to the switch, and while there are some performance issues, I'd say that it's more enjoyable overall (just for me, clearly not everyone has to feel that way). I'm just curious if I stand alone in this or if there are a few people who enjoy it as well?

It is fun! Playing with a controller makes kiting easier for me and it wasn‘t that hard to learn. But then I have only played with Wilson and Maxwell so far (and don’t plan to expand) so I don‘t know if other characters suffer specifically

I'm usually into long term worlds with massive projects and unfortunately the Switch just doesn't hold up with multiple people in a megabse. In fairness, my PS4 pro barely does aftera few thousand days, but I get pretty bad lag already in my like 300 day world on Switch.

I think it's a great platform to get more people into the game as whole, but eventually a player's skills/ideas will exceed the capabilities of the Switch and need to move up to one of the others. Here's hoping the hardware of the Switch 2 allows much sicker, less laggy, long term worlds.

It's mostly the performance. It doesn't handle multiplayer well at all, especially with a full server. It's limited to 4 players, the visuals struggle with animations, the map looks bad. It can't handle chat, on the only console without native communication methods forcing you to be near the other players and placing a sign, or linking a discord in the game description and kicking anyone who ignores. Most of this is because of the system limitations, but it's so much worse than any other version of the game. Sad that they were fine to release with all the downsides, without embracing the touch screen.

It's the ground textures on the map, I couldn't immediately identify what it was, but that's why it looks worse.

The console ports aren't really handled spectacularly at all though really. It's still a good enough game, but it's hard to give any praise to the devs. The standard experience we get is worse in most aspects.

I know it's rude to say this, but the devs need to familiarize themselves to the console experience. I'm basing this on the differences with wortox, it was not planned or designed with us in mind. Its insulting to the consumer.

It's because you haven't played enough and/or you're not good enough to get to the parts where it's obvious. Character choice matters as well.

Wilson is different from Maxwell, and Maxwell has completely different issues when on a beefalo than Wilson would.
