We really really REALLY need improved storage bins or storage bin upgrades

Recommended Posts

The only way to store stuff in bulk now is through putting tons of resources into one tile submerged in liquid (cause of sublimators) just to store everything. Either that we need upgrades, or a buff to storage bins, or a whole new storage bin that would be more of a silo with higher resource hold.

It's to reduce lag and to reduce need to space to build storage. Maybe adding plastics or refined metals to storage bin for upgrade to double or triple yield held would be amazing addition imo.

Lag can be an issue especially when scrolling over the resource pile. I think the less entities in the game might be better.

I feel like the basic storage bins are fine enough the way they are, even if a boost to capacity would be appreciated, but smart storage bins need more to differentiate them.

Having higher capacity for smart storage bins would be great, conveyor in and out would be awesome even if it comes at the cost of direct dupe interaction with the bin, similar to how reservoirs work. The power cost to get the automation signal was ill conceived from the start and it just means nobody uses them.

I feel like the most annoying part of storage bins is that you need an auto sweeper and loader either way, so you’re just reducing what you can fit in an auto sweeper pickup range to use them

I would love a bin that directly stores without dupes being able to interact with it.

It's a solid matter buffer.

silo with higher resource hold

I agree with this one.

Klei could introduce a new building, a silo, similar in size to the gas reservoirs, and with a huge load capacity, maybe even at least 500 tons.

I never was a fan of the fact that you could theoretically "store" the whole map in one tile only.

There should be better ways.

I wish we could unlock the story trait storage.

I've been meaning to try using it in some type of custom use build but no luck yet.

I think this is especially important for new players. When you start it seems like the game wants you to store mined resources, but by the mid-game you already need dozens upon dozens of storage bins and it seems like you’ve misunderstood what the game wants you to do. This was a major pain point for me when I started.

As a more experienced player, once you understand the pathing of dupes you realize that consolidated storage is critical, both for efficiency and performance reasons, but the game gives you no good tools to manage this. Hence, we store the whole map in a single tile. Or install mods.

There is a big opportunity here to implement some new buildings/mechanics that address this issue in a way that is much more fun, and way better for new players.
