fps drop to very few nearly freezing cycle 400 26 dupes is it coming from my cpu?

Recommended Posts

hello I was wondering if it was a pc config computer my brother loaded the save on his own it was running smoothly. We both have 32 giga ram but not the same cpu. My game is nearly not running at all, freezing all the times. Could anyone tell me if it comes from my cpu? many thanks configadrien.png.cb401eec3daa6b347cf957fb20f12bb9.png

There are roughly 36,000 items marked clearable (sweep chores) in that save, interacting with and sorting that list appears to dominate the performance cost of that save. As for the asymmetry between the cpus performance there my guess would be that the difference in L2 cache size is the primary culprit rather than just clock speed as sorting an array that fits in L2 cache will be significantly faster than one that does not, at 32 bytes per clearable entry, 36k clearable, the array being sorted to pick chores out of the sweep commands looks to be around 1.09 MB in size, But that is just speculation.

This save will be added to the list of things we are looking at for performance improvements but I would recommend reducing the number of open sweep chores in the mean time to improve your performance.

(Note: sorting isn't the main cost of having the clearables list exceed cache capacity but it is similar in structure to the other processes at play and the most accessible example)

Thank you I cancel the sweep orders on both whole maps There's no freeze anymore

Something similar happens if you have lots of storage without choosing sweep only.

It's fine once the base is established and cleaned up though. Otherwise dupes tend to idle between choosing the next pile or causing a bit of stutter.

started a new colony with a few asteroid and less mods. Took notice of what you both said but the game is very slow. Maybe the size map.

Try turning off steam overlays and other background activities.

Keep the debrie to a minimum.

After loading the map try backing to the main menu after the map loads in fully. Then try it again, don't pan the camera till it fully loads and see if it's less sluggish then save it manually.

No idea why that helps sometimes.

I get the same issue with my memory sometimes.

It just randomly spikes from steam and everything crashes. No crash report or nothing though. Just home screen.

It run a lot better on my pc so I can only assume it's an issue with the limited hardware and memory issue or steam.

Always starts with loading issues on a save file and stuttering.

Maybe the size map.

Yes, that's the problem. The starting world alone is more than 6 times the size of a classic style start plus you have more full sized worlds. This means a huge amount of plants, critters, seeds, ores, buildings, tiles, etc. to simulate. Try playing on a normal sized map.

Something to try in 20 years. Maybe.
