Geothermal heat pump actual operation duration

Recommended Posts

Hello dupes and dupettes,

After tinkering for a while with geovents, I am now convinced that the wiki is wrong about the subject.

I'm running three separate blocks, with 8 turbines per block, limited to three inputs each. That equals 9,6 kg of water flow, per block.

I have three liquid reservoirs, one before each geopump input. If the geopump needs 400+16 seconds to operate, that would equal 3.993,600 kg of water coming from each block, so I'd need to top it up to reach the 12 tons the pump requires. That's not the case however, the reservoir level keeps slowly, but steadily rising. Which means that the entire operation actually lasts 417 seconds.

This made another problem manifest: the rng nature of vent distribution. I do have a top off mechanism inside the turbine chambers and I was believing that they would eventually equalize out. However, after a 9 hours afk session one turbine block had over 60 kg steam per tile in it, while the others had to keep asking for additional 95c water to respect the 20kg per tile lower limit I had set.

That is way too much for comfort, so I'm thinking if it's a good idea to add another steam turbine limited to one input, controlled by a filtered atmo sensor in the lowest pressure area, in order to increase the flow coming out of the excessively filled chamber to 10 kg and use that excess to top off the unlucky ones, before any external water input.

Surely 400 grams per second will suffice? :wilson_confused:

Addendum - I have to use separate blocks: my geovents are all over the place and I'd never make a single room for them. No way Sir!

ONI timings was always weird. Game can skip some tics due to fast speed and low FPS so 2-3  seconds difference is totally normal

It seems to last 417 seconds on a new save file with nothing discovered, locked dupes, no debris and on speed 1.

I have the same results on speed 3 and a true garbage base™.
