Woby Here, Woby There: Allow Walter to send Woby to players that are not actively shown on the map, under the condition that the player has pet Woby before

Recommended Posts

As it stands, WH,WT is a great skill for returning items to base, but a very clunky one for sending items to another player. This is the only way to unlock Woby's storage for other players, so we came up with a potential fix for this issue. When talking with @_mylilsunshine_ in a different thread, we thought it would be cool if you could send Woby to a player without knowing their location if and only if that player has pet Woby before.

This would make sense, as Woby is a dog who can track things that Walter wouldn't be able to. Woby could get the scent of that player when they pet her, allowing her to find them later. It could even have Woby taking off in a random direction to prevent Walter from knowing what direction other players are from him. Just seems like a cool interaction that could really explore the full potential of this perk.

Also the most important reason for this change is to give players the option to pet Woby. She's a good puppy.

I guess it lets Woby know their sent by petting her.

However, i believe it should last for a limited time, like 3 or 4 days under this explanation. I dont want it to undermine the cool use of octovigis and moonlens.

I agree, this way players will pet her even more.

This is definitely fair. I also think it would be fair if it took Woby longer to reach the player since she is going by scent and scent only. It shouldn't be instant.

This also makes other methods benefit Walter as the sooner she reaches her target, the sooner he gets her back

Edit: also an excellent point by Crimson Hollow above. Giving reasons to continuously pet Woby

Allow Woby to target ghost players. If Woby's inventory has a Teltalle Heart, she'll use it on them. If it has a Life-Giving Amulet, she'll drop it next to them. Allowing Woby to revive friends!

Also the WHWT suggestion is top, could compete with Wortox's ability to just appear from thin air and res you for pretty much nothing, just at a higher cost of a Life Giving Amulet. Kinda vibes with that "Saint Bernard Rescue Dog" vibe people have been wanting Woby to fill. I'm always super duper for skills that allow you to more effectively carry your noob friends to help them get into the game, nothing grinds a new player experience to a halt more than having 75% of your max health missing halfway into Winter.

If Woby takes on the role of a rescue dog, the skill name suggestion "Postal Pup" by @Radicaljoe might not apply, but I still both love the name and the revival suggestion. We would also love a unique petting animation for Woby pretty please :flustered::encouragement:

I like this as a way of making a whitelist for Woby and eliminating some of the annoying points of the compass system.

Dude… why go through all that? Just allow the Walter player to pick who they want to send Woby to visit… there’s literally an in-game lobby list of players, shouldn’t be too hard to pull that up, pick a player and send Woby to them.

This would- Allow you to send Woby to multiple different people (useful for delivering base supplies to a base builder or weapons and armors to someone waiting to fight a boss) the “Pet Woby” restriction first would just severely limit that…

Another  different restriction idea could be time instead of uses amounts. Like sending her to another player takes a 1-5 mins (whatever amount is reasonable) as she needs to "hunt them down". This way, you are missing woby access and use for that time and they don't get the items immediately. Similar to Postman à la Identity V.

Absolutely. I wouldn't want this to completely outclass the compass/moonlens. It would be an alternative to those that is cheap and doesn't require any active input from the receiver except petting Woby recently. The drawbacks would be that she takes longer to get to her destination, where if a compass/moonlens/ocuvigil/Woby flag was used, it would be instant as it currently is.

I like this a lot more then a lot of the proposals that have been made recently, since it makes it so players have more reason to interact and communicate their abilities rather than just doing the mod thing of making all the perks of exploration be communicated automatically and for free.
