Giving Maxwells Shadow Servants the ability to interact with boats & do farming tasks.

Recommended Posts

I got this idea from Maxwell's quotes for boating & farming related things.

Boating related quotes
Messing up when rowing; "Hmph. Physical labor is more suited to underlings" & "This isn't exactly my forte."
Examining a Boat Patch: "I detest such work."
Examining an Anchor kit: "Can't someone else assemble it?"
Examining a Steering Wheel kit: "Hard labor? Isn't that Winona's forte?"

And several more, all stating Maxwell's distaste in having to do sailor work in a very Maxwell fashion. This gave me the idea of: Why not allow Maxwell's minions to do some of the work? Obviously the first idea is to give them the ability to row, allowing Maxwell to sail faster, but also things like interacting with sails to close them and setting anchors once Maxwell & other characters have departed the ship to keep it from moving would be neat. Giving them the ability to row would be the most impactful thing though.
The biggest challenge with letting them row I'd imagine would be ensuring that the servants don't accidentally cause you to crash your boat or work against you by rowing the wrong way, and I'm not sure how difficult that would be to program, but for an idea: Simply having them row once for every time you row (or maybe once every two times you row, or even three) I'd imagine would help avert risk, they only row when you row. This solution would also allow for the player to assess risk vs reward by choosing how many servants to summon; more servants means more rowing power, but going faster has a higher risk of crashing.

Farming related quotes
Examining a Garden Hoe: "Am I to be reduced to a common farmhand?"
Examining a Watering Can: "Surely someone else can do these menial tasks?"

And more related quotes, once again stating his distaste. His servants (at least if iirc) already dig up stones and such when first using a digamajig, but allowing them to interact with plants would be convenient for early game before you get either shell bells or a one man band. However, allowing the servants to pick up watering cans to water crops, maybe even looking for nearby ponds to refill the can should it be empty, as well as harvesting crops (hammering and then picking up the harvest for overgrown crops) would make them very beneficial, and might even allow Maxwell to handle many tiles of crops with a bit of time investment with little issue. This would be rather strong, but due to Maxwells pitiful health pool and not needing anything for sanity options, I don't actually think this improved farming capability would even benefit him that much. However, allowing him to farm essentially passively, with the only requirement being nightmare fuel, could be extremely helpful for smaller groups of people who don't want to dedicate too much time to farming, making him an overall better team player.
(As a side note, I'm not sure how difficult it would be to put all of this alongside the things the servants already do, because servants are already designed to pick stuff up and as such they might just pick up a bunch of stuff you don't want them to since farms tend to be near bases where you have a lot of stuff laying around. Maybe if you wanted to expand upon this, it'd be a good idea to have farmers be their own unique summon to avoid problems, but that's probably a bit to far).

These are just suggestions, and I apologize for making one so long and probably wasting a little of your time. Regardless, thanks for reading my suggestion, hope you're having a good start to the new year.
