I don't understand the critics to Wendy's skill tree

Recommended Posts

I see how after the changes they gave Wendy's skill tree she continues to receive multiple criticisms and some even from a poorly made or destroyed skill tree, which I disagree with

I mean, Wendy before The Skill Tree was a pretty well-rounded character, she had a lot of things, and now she has even more things like full control of Abigail, manipulation of tombstones, improvements to the Morning Gloryes search and even A LOT of different effects with different abilities drinking their own potions (I mean, bro you have access to night vision, shields with thorns, remove life penalty among others to ONLY one skill point, is quite profitable)

Many people complain based on affinity and since it spends a lot of Insight points, well... I share this opinion a little, in Wendy's affinities some points are wasted, but it is not something so SOOO terrible as many of the critics say, I mean, look at Wolfgang's skill tree and compare it with Wendy's, Wolfgang's skill tree is a real disaster and Wendy is a masterpiece by comparison, But people see it as the worst of the skill trees :/<

maybe, I'm wrong, Idk, but this is my point of view

Wendy before the skill tree was a balanced character. But she was not a well rounded character. Literally all of her perks were based around Abigail, that you didn't have that much direct control over.

Yes her tree isn't as bad as wolfgang's and is one of the 5 best in the game, but it's still incredibly rough around the edges, as has been discussed elsewhere.

I feel like a issue with her skills not being based around abigial is that her personality revolves around her. That being said it's not like the devs didn't come up with ideas divorced from Abigail even if some of them are still somewhat related to Abigial.

I see Wendy's tree more like Woodie's skill tree rather than Wolfgang's.

I don't take issue with her skills revolving around Abigail. My issue is that Pre-Skill tree the only thing abigail could do was her singular AOE attack.

Things like Haunt, terrorise, Team spirit, etc were all sorely lacking.

still one skill that i kinda weirded out is the grave revival.
which only a trade off from the meat effigy.
do they change this? or it still stayed till now? the other branch already polished imo.

if she was occult maybe just give her way to call ghost teammate to her place (like maybe ouija board or something) so u dont need wait ur ghost friend to walk for whole day to be revived. i know its just walk around of being revived, but it give different taste. atleast in my vision of wendy.

I think she could've gotten more attention in the ways that mattered if less time had been spent arguing why it's okay for her to be stronger than Wolfgang (the nerfs came regardless) and we had more (unburied) threads suggesting fun perks for her.

The Woby drying rack and portable were both ideas from players, for example. Wendy got a number of changes that were suggested, but I think there could've been more if the oxygen hadn't been wasted on unreasonable demands. (There were requests for improvements to sisterhood skills and haunt RNG which may have been drowned out by nonsense.)

People had thematic issues with Wendy digging up graves, so now she has to waste broken shells on that. (Why does the grave shrink out of existence? Weird.) Imagine if there'd been a greater push to allow graves to be crafted from bone shards, instead of requiring someone to die (which doesn't mesh well with some game settings).

That said, I feel wraith wreath is under-appreciated. You now get cheap pre-rifts damage absorption that lets you achieve 100% damage prevention for some hits (using most any armor). (Remember the disingenuous complaints that Wortox gets bone armor after it's already available?) The other elixirs also grant some good utility, and it's all in one perk. (It could be improved to store the elixir when unequipped, certainly.)

Walter got a bunch of fun stuff in the update. Wendy advocates seemed to focus too much on if the fun stuff was practical (e.g., vengeful spirit). There's a reason Wolfgang's tree isn't good, and it's not because of a lack of power or practicality.

I think I mostly agree with this, Ultimately I think Wendy's and Walters trees have given out similar amounts of stuff (Albeit Wendy's is only in a few skills like MG2 and Haunt). Walter's probably still a bit ahead, but that's ok because he was a weaker character in the first place. Wendy got a lot of neat aesthetic details and easter eggs which imo is fair compensation.

The big issue though, is that While Walter's perks are readily available, Wendy has to jump through a frankly ridiculous number of hoops for hers.

Shadow Abigail requires constant Murders, Gesalt Abigail is restricted by phases of the moon, Haunt is locked behind needless RNG, reviving a butterfly costs 2 mg per craft, Wendy drinking potions being locked behind a perishable headgear, etc. If she got the needed QOL on all of those skills her tree would  almost be on par with Walters.

It's no surprise team spirit is almost universally beloved because... i'ts just commands. Other than haunt RNG there's no asterisk.

I think the only skills that really need buffs are Perrenial Altar, making graves produce MG, and reworks to potions 3 & 4.

it still need improvement just as same as the command wheel of Woby. (though the Woby wheel is more urgently need a improvement)

Yeah, it's just requests are always 'please change this' rather than "this is unsalvageable why is this a thing"
