More Walter Skill Suggestions - Traps

Recommended Posts

Walter could get a skill / skills that allow him to craft special traps. I have a couple of ideas, but I'm sure there could be better ones:

Quote
  • Snare Trap: Walter can craft snare traps and place them on trees. They can trap pigmen, merms and bunnymen.
  • Bear Trap: Walter can craft and set bear traps that damage the target and immobilize / has a chance to immobilize the target.
  • Bow Trap: Walter can craft a bow trap that fires an arrow if a target triggers it by stepping on an attached wire.
  • Sprung Spear Trap: Walter can craft a sprung spear trap, that launches a spear if a target triggers it by stepping on an attached wire.

He should probably also be able to dismantle and move such traps.

Any thoughts?

definitely one of the more interesting suggestions for Walter for sure. idk if it is too late in the developmental cycle for this, but I wouldn't mind seeing a couple of these or something inspired by this dropped in. A honey trap for instance would be interesting

He shouldnt have these. They dont mesh well with his playstyle.

This is better as a craft for any survivor.

putting distance and obstacles between the ranged character and himself doesn't mesh with his playstyle. ok

Sorry to Author, but I also honestly don't think it fits Walter's character and playstyle. I don't think the Boy Scouts would teach such dangerous traps.

I think it would be nice if these traps for new "Surly Hunter" character. Warbucks

Yeah Walter's theme is very innocent and fun more than it is gritty survivalist, he is a child. He shoots a slingshot which is basically as innocent of a weapon as you can get and tells campfire stories and freaks out when he gets hurt. I don't think traps that will injure or maim things fits with his nature loving attitude, and that goes against boy scout code. His new ammo acts as all sorts of combat utility now anyways, in fact he probably has the most variety and potency in the game for that now. More things in this line of being a boy scout would be nice though, maybe faster animal hunt tracking, more efficient campfires/torches, faster movement in the forest, idk.

Reminded me of that tooth trap inspection quote: We didn't make traps like this in the pinetree pioneers...

But idk what average scout camps teach the kids, maybe something he can throw on the ground to create a temporary area that deals damage or applies debuff could be nice? like pine tar or sth, but should be different from icker jars

But oh well, he's got a lot of damage boosting stuff already, some qol stuff is definitely welcomed.

I think a small cheap campfire could be cool. 1 log and 2 sticks.

I also think Walter could make the canopy from sw, I think building waterproof shelter is an earnable badge?

Honestly more traps on Wilson is something I would like instead of on walter.
Since, the first part of don't starve og's combat development was investing in more and more ways to indirectly fight your enemies (Bee mines, tooth traps, darts,) while keeping weapons and armor awkward and clearly cludged together. (Sports equipment having been the best armor for a while for example.)

Walter getting crafts for dealing with the elements like rain and heat better would be big brained given the scout association. Even better if his shelter items against rain also collected water you could use in a watering can (Since a tarp based shelter can do both.)

how can we make this about Wilson. Jokes aside anything on Wilson would be nice, but this isn't about him

Warbucks was an explorer. Similar to Nigel Thornberry, where as Walter is a wilderness survival expert. setting up diversions shouldn't be ruled out of the realm of possibilities especially on the ranged character that needs to make space. Also I'm fairly certain boy scouts are free-form. They just kinda do whatever. We built totem poles at one of our meetings so I wouldn't think about it too hard.

i think you might mean his "theme" his playstyle is kind of up to the player but his theme as a good boy and a scout would not be conducive to having him make things that offer prolonged suffering of animals until they die

the thing is though the part of me that wants interesting stuff to do still lowkey wants things like this even if conceptually i do think he isnt the one suited to them(wilson has just enough bloodlust in him though to wily coyote it up)

oof, they are still doing the totems?

also nigel thornberry was a tv host and preservationist and warbucks was a big-game hunter who just wanted to murder everything. they both were british men in safari outfits though so i see how aesthetically they line up even if they were doing vastly different things

Traps will make him bloated since they dont help with his goal
