A suggestion for Shadow Abigail.

Recommended Posts

Now that I've played a substantial amount of days in the beta with the Lunar abi, I think she's way better now than what it was before. Klei made the right decision to nerf the insane damage she has (even though she's super strong still), and I'm having a blast playing Wendy recently even with some concerns about the early stage still of her skill tree. But her Gestalt form definitely feels finished.

Other than the fact that we still can cancel potion drinking by walking and using the flower cancels movement (which I hope gets changed), I still think that Shadow Abi is mainly in a primordial state still. But I have some Ideas in mind for making the gameplay more satisfying.

No.1 thing, the Murder Action. I actually am a fan of this feature, not only it resembles the oldschool Abi, but it also makes for a very fun experience to just roam around the forests, with my little basket of potions, catching rabbits with the help of the rabbit king and getting butterflies with my bug net. This is actually the good side of it. My concern is on the actual gameplay side of things.

  1. A single rabbit will occupy a whole inventory slot by itself. As time progresses, we need more and more things in our inventory to prepare for challenges, build the base and organize for boss fights.
  2. Butterfly reviving requires a Bundling Wrap to store the wings. Constantly I saw myself not using as much the shadow effect as I intended to. If we're going to intend for the player to actually revive the butterflies and use it constantly, then we're gonna need something to change imo.

I see myself not beneffiting too much form the planar stuff too. It seems too later in the game that I'm actually going to get any power from it, but it fits, and looks like a great position to be in. For me, it's better to be less damage, but planar than not, and to convince the player to use the vex buff as well.

My suggestion is very simple. Just make it so Butterfly Wings can be stored in the casket, and make them not spoil. This simple thing would already be an amazing QoL.

Another tip is to make Rabbits either craftable from beard hair, or simply allow them to be stored inside the casket in a stack of maximum 10 with no spoil time, similar to a butterfly. Retrieving them would pull them individually.

As is stands, and as I mentioned before, Shadow Abi and the Wraith's Wreath do not seem to be completely finished. I believe some thinking about the QoL while actually playing and farming for shadow abi should be taken in consideration. I don't think managing the butterfly hp is a problem, but rather the spoilage of the wings.

This is a slight problem because they're consumables and can be turned into butter muffins (kelp + 2 twigs).

Bundling wrap is the solution for everything that spoils that you aren't using any time soon. It wouldn't hurt to just increase the spoil time of wings, however. 20 days?

I just used a fridge. Resurrecting the butterflies, then killing them again, results in brand new fresh wings. Then I could merge those with my fridge wings whenever, to restore the stack a bit.

I do like the idea of using the Picnic Casket to store my butterfly wings. I would eat the wings directly from the basket.

Arrogance.

I guess I'll just use gift wraps then. But just so you know, you still can make it so butterfly wings that were placed in the casket get unused. And you can still change the crafts for the revival to accomodate this skill. This would make it make more sense instead of forcing me to kill bee queen or gather more butterflies again after they rot in case I haven't used them OR have to waste mourning glory to revive them or manage them in a long term. Like, seriously, it's not worth it for the increased damage, I rather just farm butterflies ONLY when i'm ready to fight a boss IF they decide to not add something for the player.

I find myself waiting even 50 days sometimes just building the base, amassing resources and stuff before I decide to fight a boss, and having to spend a whole day catching butterflies again would not make sense to the reduced time you get with the higher DPS from the feature itself. It's just, not worth it. I rather stick with lunar abi if that's the case since it looks more worth it.

The word arrogance is to define an overly confident person, who thinks that their thoughts overrite other people thoughts. If I test both, and I decide one is better without looking at other people's opinion, that is not arrogance, that is an unbiased opinion.

I'm not gonna go with the current just because it suits people. I'm gonna say what I think it's true from my perspective, and if you think otherwise, better to try to show me your world so then I can maybe get convinced and change my opinion and we can come to an agreement and create a mutual thought that englobes our both worlds instead of being unfruitful and call others arrogant for no reason.

Personally, I find bees and killer bees to be much easier to gather.

Wether basing by beequeen, a bunch of bee hives, or just making bee boxes, bees are pretty easy to gather

They're usually nearby good spots for basing anyways, and other characters such as Willow, Wortox, and Webber also use them. As well as being sources for vigor mortis and nightshade.

Just a bugnet, and walking near a killer bee hive, or punching a bee hive gets out killer bees. Abby will defend ya, and allow you to gather a good amount easily.

Silk for bugnets can be easily gathered while helping pipspooks out in a Forrest.

Ice flingomatics and a torch will also make gathering very easy, either with some hives or with beeboxes

Lightbugs can be really good for underground, too.

Butterflies (and the resurrection skill) have their niche, though. I like that there are a bunch of options, and they can become better or worse based on your situation in a given game.

Lightbugs are amazing because you can spawn them on command.

If you have a wormwood, with the skill to make them, then I think they would probably be the best choice at anytime

Butterflies are pretty good for ruins, or smalls bursts of the buff. Like using one butterfly for werepig's first phase for example.

I forgot about that for Wormwood. I think I forgot because they made them no longer drop souls.
