I merely used the ending of slavery as a well-known example of a time humans collectively decided that doing the moral thing was more important than profit, because some people on the pro-AI side argue that never happens.

Right, I agree that there are examples in history of this happening, but slavery wasn't abolished simply because it's unethical. Otherwise we wouldn't have cases of working conditions analogue to slavery to this day. There's a whole context behind it, but I won't get into too much detail because I think I'm already getting "too political" here.

Yep, slavery didn't get abolished because humans are concerned about morality. It got abolished because fast industrialization cut the need for that kind of labor and slaves had more value as free people.

Couldn't normal chatgpt come up with this stuff if you give the right prompts?

There is Ai that can easily detect cancers and stuff.

Cool, but is detecting cancer worth more than the pollution it causes by requiring so much electricity. (im ignorant)

Yes it is. It doesn't require that much electricity. Not as much as other technology that pollutes the environment

Oh, alright. Well that's good. I just know that AI systems like chatgpt consume a ton of electricity to run, but I think that is because of the servers required to host it. Like I said, im ignorant and have a lot to learn.

It's ok, it's not something that we expect the general public to know. You're right in questioning it. And afaik you're also right about the servers, they consume way more electricity than the AI itself. For single purpose and offline AIs it won't cost more energy than what the computer is capable of. There's plenty of medical equipment that spends more electricity than a home computer, even a high end one.

Considering how messed up DST community is with the lack of updates, TF2 community seem Übermensch.

Years of Copium have rendered TF2 players to be saints of patience. I'm still huffing it in hopes of one last update.

  • Shared Grief: Increases Abigail’s damage or health the more Wendy stays near her.
  • Ethereal Bond: Improves synergy with ghosts (faster summon, reduced sanity penalty).
  • Vengeful Mourning: Boosts Wendy’s combat stats briefly after Abigail is summoned or perishes.
  • Pensive Medium: Boosts her sanity when near ghostly entities or graves.

All of these are straight trash lol.

i rather not use ai instead i use my brain

I absolutely get what you mean though. It's just that AI is very useful to avoid some real tedious work and I disagree with the logic that it is bad at all times. Yes, it's never going to be a brain replacement. Let us have fun though.

Then stop use it for worthless things like music.

That would mean…what, destroy all the AI for all the enemies in every game? My, never knew the forum are so keen on difficulty-less games

Why electricity would be a problem…Electricity is cheap, even for industrial uses

electricity production is a major contributor to greenhouse emissions. Considering we aren't fully renewable (and even if we are fully renewable there's still a lot of issues with mining for resources and the devastation that brings on ecostystems), AI, specifically the generator types produce a non-insignificant amount of greenhouse emissions.

fair point. AI by its literal definition is that, but i am referring mostly to the stuff that self teaches and grows and grows and grows. Endless growth is dangerous.
