I can attest to that- what I see is a player wanting the game to stay "difficult" by keeping eye-straining and frustrating features in with no way to disable them. This isn't fun difficulty, it's just tedium that pushes people away and gatekeeps the game. As for the actual snow- I don't think it is even possible to actually remove just turf bits of the overlay. Klei would probably have to make changes to how snow is implemented right now. I'm not certain though. This isn't fun difficulty, it's just tedium that pushes people away and gatekeeps the game. There is too much tedium in the game that is defended by specific players on the forums religiously when we are here to play a game not to work a job, why should grinding materials even be considered as part of the difficulty? It barely makes sense to me because you have to spend time on it when it may be limited but when players get better it doesn't make a difference it is just tedium at the end. I have been using a client mod to remove snow for as long as it was on steam workshop so it is hard for me to chime in here as I haven't seen winter with snow in so many years. I didn't dislike it but not seeing roads when I was not as good at DST was much worse, now that I know what I am doing for the most part it is very easy and seasons can only be annoyances at most as it is very easy to ignore them by using a piece of gear usually eyebrella/umbralla with beefalo or thermal stone. Heatrock, dragon fly stove, eyeball umbrella... These difficulties encourage players to explore the world and improve their game skills and learn to survive. But what's the use of snow? In addition to causing light pollution, making your eyes uncomfortable and hindering the battle of some bosses... It does not provide a way to solve difficulties, but simply "makes people uncomfortable" and will not give any positive feedback. In contrast, sandstorms in the desert can be solved by goggles, which is a compromise solution, which will not completely eliminate difficulties, but also provide a possible way to eliminate discomfort. And winter is really a season of nothing. There are only two things that can be done in the later stage of DST: fighting bosses and building bases. When I defeat the Twin Eyes and Klaus, I usually don't fight them again. So if I don't go to the cave or go to sea, there are only two things I can do in winter: collecting resources and decorating the base. And the snow makes it difficult to decorate the base. If that was the intention, even if it's a minor thing in terms of gameplay, it's fatal from an aesthetic and as base decoration, and I can't like that kind of specification. Above all, I wish they would do something about the snow color is "Eye-bleaching white." Even if it's just an option, I want to make it a color that's a little easier on the eyes. Also AVGN said it's not good about the screen of game being mostly white. 8 hours ago, Lee lol said: And winter is really a season of nothing. Other than snow, I think winter is OK. For me, there's a lot to do in winter: fight Klaus (you definitely should fight Klaus every winter. 4 wax papers, a life charm, boss items, and a small chance of a Krampus Sack), fight MacTusk, collect ice, go to ocean (I think it's the next easiest season for sailing after autumn.), and do a bunch of other jobs I didn't do in the other seasons. Yes, I would have fight Klaus and Mactusk before 500 days, but I had a winter feast. After I had the wrapping paper it provided and two Krampus backpacks, I didn't fight Klaus much. Sailing is also a good way to kill winter time, but when I want to stay on land, the heavy snow makes it impossible for me to build a base almost the whole winter, which is a little annoying.
