Once all of the characters got a rework they added skill trees and they also added rift content which draws out game even further. Rifts don't bother me that much and I do kinda like them but still... Aight.. why are you wanting them to not drag out the game? Are you expecting some grand and final conclusion where the game just comes to an end? Why would any SANE person do that??? Does absolutely no one sit and think about all the changes Klei has done to this game (for better or for worse..) that makes it so much more different then it’s 2015 version? Like I’ll just name a few of the most obvious things off a rather exhausting list I’ve been piling up. they changed the Craft UI so we could assign several tabs worth of “Quick Crafting” sections, they explained their reasoning as to WHY they did that was that because as time went on (and more and more new weapons and items etc was added into the game to craft) the OLD UI would’ve been to cluttered and you’d spend most your time scrolling through it to craft something, now (even though people originally hated the new UI system) it is significantly faster to craft things- And I was expecting we would get a TON of new weapons and armors to compensate. And no I’m not talking about the dumb “Rift Stuff” that is only useable once you unlock rifts, or the character exclusive crafts like Wortox’s Nabsack. I mean that if Klei was to ever port Shipwrecked and Hamlet into DST we would have weapons that are “slightly” Better than Spears, but not as good as a Hambat or Darksword with things like the Corking Bat. But the new UI (which devs said was changed because of needing to craft way more stuff later) is just ONE of the big changes… They also added all the skill tree stuff which didn’t just give characters skill trees, but also added new types of mobs into the game, like Nurse Spiders & Pipspook, or changed the AI Behavior of creatures so that Wurts Merms (and also regular hostile Merms too..) don’t just run endlessly into the edge of water now with bugged AI. When the ocean was first added hounds still ran to the edge of it and looked stupid, but they updated their AI to swim, and spiders AI to jump on boats to attack you Etc.. My point is that after all the fine tuning under the hood of the car Klei has been working on, they’d have to be complete fools to abandon that car now, so I don’t see DST ending anytime soon.. in fact, I’ll boldly make the claim that it’s probably just getting started. Is it just beginning? It's scary to imagine, because the game has been around for 10 years. Chewabacca
2024 was actually a pretty good year, IMO. Especially speaking as a player with not much interest in the rifts right now: Scrappy Scavengers gave us the Junk Yard, WOBOT, and a new healing salve. Staying Afloat had the marotters, who I think are the single biggest change to the world (in a good way), reworked a widely disliked boss fight, and added other ocean content (that I don't care about but other people do). Almost all of the pre-rift content in Depths of Duplicity was bad, but worth building on--if you're used to doing things the DS way, then introducing the Rabbit King hugely impacts how you play the game for survival, for example. The issue with the Great Depths Worm hardly ever spawning unless you stay in the caves for a million years has already been patched in the new year's update.
