goatt
I'm playing a world with no Pacu Fish as lime makers, so I was sorta forced to figure out how to tame Pokeshells. So I took on the project. Here is the one I'm happy with. (Life Cycle Graphs) Spoiler The life cycle is pretty straightforward: 1. egg 2. small children 3. big adult 4. angry adult + egg => causing door open + ranching station disabled (to prevent wars) 5. angry adult jump into the calm room 6. calm adult gets kicked out (step 5 and 6 is optional, and can be removed, because adult will die in isolation naturally before a new adult appearing, But I kicked them out and put them all in a starvation room) 1. as adult is removed, returning to 1 egg, and repeat So, essentially, this farm removes critters, rather than use the common remove-egg strategy. I keep pokeshells single for an important design reason: Because hungry Pokeshell can breed 1 egg without being fed, and they are equivalent to infertile afterwards, I want to track who's infertile, so that I don't have to waste Dupe's time on continuing rubbing them for 14 more days for nothing until they die. Although I wish I can also find ways to prevent Dupes from rubbing babies, I have no success. Plus, single rooms makes automation much simpler, and easier to scale. Here is my breeding room. Any new born egg will sustain a new room infinitely, or starved here if no more rooms available. Spoiler High air pressure to prevent offgassing hatching room = starvation room, unless critters are moved to farm. The question is: Is it worth it? I wish I considered this question before my effort, but I didn't. But I'm still interested to find out. Comparison to Pacu Farm, which is also infinite and requires no food. In the discussion below, all mentioned Pacu and Pokeshells will be tamed and in infinite farms that requires no further resources. Each Pacu requires about 1.3 tile room space, producing 2kg eggshell or 2kg limes, at interval of 25 days (5 days hatching + 20 days reproducing while hungry), no dupe ranching required, Each Pokeshell requires 12 tile room space, producing 1 big molt and 1 small molt or 15kg limes, at interval of 31 days (20 days hatching, + 11 days repreducing while hungry), dupes must groom them to keep the high reproducing speed. During the 11 days, depending on dupe's husbandary skill, it requires at least 4 grooming. So on average Each kg of Pacu lime requires about 0.7 room tile space, 12.5 days, no dupes Each kg of Pokeshell lime requires about 0.8 room tile space, 2 days, 0.25 dupe's grooming. (I'm not a careful person, my math can not be trusted. But I developed this and used it for hundreds of cycles in real game, so I know it works.)
