dez3940 Posted December 6, 2024 Share Posted December 6, 2024 so some systems i fell should have more interplay gunk/gear oil economy (thoughts) Past early game it feels like there isn't a use for it until way late game where permeable you do crude -> lube station -> gunk extractor -> gunk petroleum boiler. you have to do a separate boiler from a crude oil one as i don't think having enough bio dupes to process 10 kg/s of crude is feasible early game because of how the frequency of gunk expulsion is they dont output enough to make a new balm and end up with grinding gears and about 23% gunk they won't expel because its under the threshold to expel gunk phyto oil is hyper situational and has no use beyond gear oil and isn't sustainable without a source of po2 and puft ranching. gunk/gear oil economy (suggestions) For early game just having them extract gunk if they have gunk during wash time even if below the 75% threshold seems reasonable, perhaps limited to the gunk extractor to prevent wasting outhouse resources. for mid game gunk there should be some sort of used oil re refinement. My suggestion also ties into phyto oil. Rename phyto oil to industrial lube and remove the 75c evap reaction . replace with 400+c evap to sour gas at 1/2 ratio or less add a process that is gunk+glass(+maybe filtration medium) = industrial lube + pollutant (ideas being graphite, sulfur gas or liquid, rust, polluted dirt/water) the oil refinery could be used for this so no new art needed and could off gas one of the pollutants (was thinking sulfur gas or sour gas) industrial lube could be made from petroleum + sulfur (irl gear oils are made from base oils with sulfur additives) could make it so that industrial lube is more efficient gear oil than balm or crude (a buff that reduces gear oil consumption and gunk buildup) Moral, Rooms, and down time buildings (thoughts) they should have their own suite of rooms, and set of down time buildings them being able to use beds feels like a band-aid to keep the scatter of chips down (still happens during rain maker) they lack sources of moral but do have less of a requirement due to how there skills work why was bionics depot removed? Moral, Rooms, and down time buildings (suggestions) functional buildings defragmentation dock/mat. basically replacement for beds could give a buff to defrag speed or stress reduction. power pack station. hold 4 or 6 power packs and would allow all to be changed in one action + moral bonus (basically mess table) could have shiping in/out or power to charge dead eco packs.(200 w) gunk extractor. should be reclassified as bionic service station instead of flush toilet oxygen bar. recreation building that they can also refill oxygen at and gives moral buff rooms bionics depot. mess hall replacement. oxygen bar, power pack station maintenance bay. replacement for the lavatory. lube station, gunk extractor defragmentation chamber. barracks replacement, defrag mat Mechanics (thoughts) I like there oxygen interactions however there are some improvements it could use. As it stands if you are doing cans if a bionic dupe is to far when a refill is required it will suffocate even in po2 or o2 atmosphere as they wont gulp if a can is available. Before this change they would just go from low o2 tile to low o2 tile and basically soft lock. My suggestion is they prioritize cas but if they start to suffocate (empty o2 tank) they seek nearest o2 or po2 volume above 1kg Their aversion to water is fine but they shouldn't care about atmosphere pressure or type (besides steam) the fact they get popped eardrums is dumb ad the fact they get eye irritation is even dumber (they very clearly have camera eyes). As it stands you just perma keep them in atmo suits due to how they interact with o2, basically they don't have the downside of normal dupes in perma suites being the need to constantly catch breath but because of that they don't partake in the if oxygen bug Heat and cold interaction is dumb. They should have resistances to both but not as much as an atmo suit. Lower limit should be crude oil freeze temp (-40c) and upper should be 90-95c (wouldn't want what biologics they have left to boil).
