Bluepugjr
Hi there, I consider myself a Walter main and these are my impressions of and ideas for improving the Walter skill tree. First and foremost, just looking at it I’m worried since 73% of the tree is just slingshot perks, which while I do greatly appreciate the improvements, it does make the tree feel a lot emptier. i think it could use some more unique item crafts like a better oar for sailing or something to do with mapping, y’know really expand on his Boy Scout theme. Starting with the slingshot ammo, it’s pretty good. I’ve always wanted aoe options for the slingshot and the stinger and moon glass rounds do that almost perfectly, my only gripe being that the stinger rounds seem to only do enough damage to be viable against more bees which I find redundant. the honey and icky rounds are fantastic, kinda confused on what slow down rounds are good for now tho. The shockscrap rounds im not really a fan of since the damage boost from the enemy being wet just isn’t high enough to use a point on it. dreadstone and gunpowder rounds are kinda meh I don’t really like em the lunar rounds (not moon glass) aren’t finished as of my time playing so no comment. next moving on to the slingshot field kit. this item is a dream. Honestly my favorite skill out of the whole thing. I don’t have much to say for the band upgrades other than more range is always appreciated but otherwise underwhelming The Thulecite frame is my personal favorite as of right now. The scrappy frame is wayyy to expensive to be practical and the bone frame wasn’t working for me. The grips. I love em but they all seem kind of niche for some reason. the sticky grip just isn’t gonna be useful majority of the time unless you for whatever reason wanted to fight while drenched. The standard grip is nice but I can’t really tell the speed difference. The void grip feels so much better but it being locked behind endgame content really hurts its viability imo. Also it only being a 17% speed increase is very underwhelming. Maybe 20-25% would be better but I’m no dev. the ammo efficiency is nice but I feel like they could just be condensed into one skill that splits the difference. Now for woby training. I’ll get into what I like about each one in a moment but first I feel like that all have the same problem in that they take way to long to max out while having the %1 and 100% difference not feeling too significant. if the training was a tad quicker than it’d be great. agility is very nice and I like how woby can now content with beefalo speed. I’m fine with it as is but if something were to be added, I think a brief dash ability would be fun sort of like woodie’s moose charge. bravery I don’t really get the point of i could see it as QOL I guess but I rarely get hit while I’m woby unless I’m fighting mactusk or bishops. I feel the same way about support, I just don’t see the point in making taking damage less harmful when you could just outrun the damage source. an idea I thought of for a replacement to bravery is instead of being able to take more damage, woby would bark at enemies chasing you to de-Aggro them For support I think giving woby a sanity aura would be more beneficial. Either passively or while riding digging, I like a lot as not only is it occasionally useful but it also reminds me of Junior II from enter the gungeon fetch I don’t find useful at all, it’s just not frequent enough to be helpful in day to day. with all of that out of the way, my final thoughts as of right now are that the slingshot buffs feel great but there’s not much beyond that. All of the woby training skills sound fun in concept but either take too long to complete or aren’t very impactful even when completed. I believe a good general direction to head in would be to condense more of his slingshot skills and try adding new ones relating to other aspects of his theme and kit. ex. Unique campfire, fishing rod, or new traps, etc. thank you to all who read, have a blessed day A few other things I think should be added: more campfire stories a unique woby petting animation woby sitting, dancing, and caroling animations walter bug net upgrade/unique craft Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/161320-walter-skill-tree-first-impressions/ Share on other sites
Balter
So true, As a Walter I wish stories could be customized and editted. It has no gameplay effects but adds charm to the character and gives players more creativity. _mylilsunshine_
Always glad to have another Walter main/Walter discussion, at this rate he might be left in the dust with all the Wendy/Wort threads. I'm starting a boss run beta world myself, focusing on the Sling & Rounds (they sink all 15 points anyway), so I will chime in whenever. But currently your feedback is generally in line with everyone, glad to see we can agree on what to improve. Crimson Hollow
Im also a walter main and I agree with what have been mentioned so far. My main issue is that scrappy frame is too late game to actually be powerful, and now that walter has to create his ammo at workstations every time I think this is a bit unnecessary as well. Also I believe his outdoor skills as well as fearlessness should be mentioned a bit more as well, like chances of getting double drops from spiders... Heck even let him tame a boss for a few minutes that would be super cool xd 5 hours ago, Bluepugjr said: woby sitting, dancing, and caroling animations I remember that woby will carol with you if you carol while riding woby. But small woby won't do that sadly. I personally wished there'd be more of a focus on his utility aspects rather than making the slingshot a competitor with other weapons. To me I only ever used the slingshot as a secondary/utility weapon for grabbing or ungrabbing aggro or slowing and only ever used it as a genuine weapon during bee queen. Its not bad that its getting buffed the way it is but I feel like alot of his other perks and sides of his character have been left in the dust completely. They seem to be planning to change slowdown round but it seems things like icker round's slow effect goes away if a enemy teleports and doesn't effect flying enemies like dragonfly while slowdown rounds do I'm not sure if this is a bug or not though. Strange, I just fought DFly using the Icker Round and that seems to work, Honey Round is not as effective or has no effect at all. Haven't touched Slow-down Round even once ever since I played Walter.
