Farsight
Yeah, there's definitely a serious power bug. On my map, I'm early on, so have a pretty simple power setup. Coal generators feed a smart battery and transformer. Natural gas gen feeds another smart battery and transformer. The two transformers are connected on the heavy-watt side to share power. I've used this setup on dozens of worlds for thousands of hours of game time with no issues. Now, when the transformers are connected, there is zero power anywhere, even with the generators running on full. Separate them, and power flows normally. It's a game-killer. Developer HarryMcCleave Posted November 28, 2024 Developer Share Posted November 28, 2024 @Farsight can you provide a save of the connected transformers preventing power transmission that sounds like a separate bug. The known power bug being discussed elsewhere in this thread is that when the number of power networks change there is a window before the next circuit manager update where the indices in the conduit network and circuit network mismatch meaning that things that poll the state of a circuit network (wattage sensor, wire side screen) using the conduit network index can get information for a different network (or no network (0 watts)) and report the amount of load on the other network instead, this doesn't effect power transmission or the wire damage calculations as those take place during the circuit network update which corrects the issue (until the next change to the number of networks). Or at least that is what the initial investigation into the bug has revealed. Farsight
Hmm, I'm not 100% sure it's a bug. If I find an easily reproducible case that confirms it, I'll pass it along. gigamoi
@HarryMcCleave Thanks for the insight. Yeah, since that's essentially a polling bug, we may ignore the weird visual and add a bit of automation of our own around the wattage sensor to get around it. My mind associates that visual with a blinking light bulb, a short circuit, or a faulty contact. If people can ignore it, fine, but for me, unfortunately, it's a pretty big turn-off. I love seeing the "flow" of power, it's part of the oni experience for me, if you know what I mean. It would be sad to dismiss this bug as unimportant and abandon it. For a veteran programmer, it's probably a trivial bug to fix, so my secret hope is that by Christmas I'll be playing oni again. gigamoi
Yeah. I agree. Seems fairly fixable. It was just the veteran programmer in me offering a temporary workaround.
