Achievements shouldn't be exclusive to one map! (Re: Frosty DLC)

Recommended Posts

The Frosty Planet Pack brought with it one (1) new achievement, Full Steam Ahead, which can only be obtained while playing a Ceres-type map as it is the only map-type with the Geothermal Heat Pump. For comparison, Spaced Out! has a number of DLC-exclusive achievements, all of which are possible on any SO! map, and it has the most map types of any version of the game.

I think it's alright that you need to have all DLCs to get all achievements, but I don't think it's wise to limit achievements to certain map-types. All-achievement runs are very popular, and limiting players to doing runs like that on a single map-type will limit how much those players play; I certainly find it discouraging.

This could become even more of a problem if the next DLC also includes a new map-type with a map-exclusive achievement, because then it may no longer be possible to get all achievements on any one map, and that would definitely be a turn-off to achievement hunters, completionists, and even content creators who do such themed runs.

This could be corrected by making the Geothermal Heat Pump (and any future POIs required for achievements) a story trait, able to spawn on any map when enabled, or by making it spawn on the SO! Ceres fragment (as an all-achievement run already requires SO!). The latter may require reorganizing the map to accommodate the Ceres fragment as a whole new asteroid, rather than overwriting one of the other asteroids as currently done. Both of these options have been suggested in other threads as general improvements players would like to see.

Totally agreed, that should be a story trait. I posted this feedback some time ago in the thread below, but tbh I never considered achievement side of view. That is just another argument for allowing it on all maps.
