How viable is this Walter strat?

Killing all birds on the screen -> Feeding only on their fallen corpses -> Low sanity -> Nightmare Fuel -> Cursed Rounds

Is this better than just farming Marble?

Switch to wurt, craft 9 clever disguise and bundle them in 9 separate bundling wraps in a chest. Make 10 craftsmen huts. Switch back to Walter.

Farming marble has never been so easy.

Switch to wurt

That feels a little against the point to just switch character or use someone else's perks...

Despite my ZERO experience playing Walter, I'm sure he's the best if not pretty darn good at manipulating his sanity, so doing what you said, eating easily farmed raw morsels, or what Catuna_ said, eating monster meat, could quickly put you at a nice level to slowly farm crawlers or go deep to farm terrorbeaks. Truthfully, I'm not sure how much you'd need with all the nightmare fuel you get in the ruins anyways, nor if it's even feasible to do enough bulk crafting to make the surplus of nightmare fuel matter (an entire rabbit horn of cursed rounds is surely modest), but at the very least... It's a cool Walter specific way to farm nightmare fuel, and for that it's worth doing. What do you all think about picking a rose to drain your sanity, then eating the petal when you want to stop? I feel like you'll end up healing the missing health with some random food too quick, so that would be a shame.

Another thing I want to COOK on, because surely Walter and Willow would be TRUE NIGHT LIGHT ENJOYERS together, but is there any way for Walter to not get the "last hit" on shadow creatures? I'm testing it now but for example Willow can kill shadow creatures for their nightmare fuel without getting sanity back by letting Bernie get the last hit. Maybe Walter can do the same with his shadow tentacles? (I just tested, but no, sadly :()

If anyone has some ideas on how to defer the last lit, let me know! Otherwise I think it's a pretty cool strategy to safely lower your sanity and farm cursed rounds over watching paint dry farming marble trees!

Definitely not. Walter is a character that takes really good advantage of other characters perks.

  • Switch to willow for lighters to cook on. Small bernie acts as emergency defence if you go insane from too many hits during a boss fight.
  • Wormwood has the best day-to-day body armour, bramble husk, for Walter to use with pinecone hat, walters camper tent helps alot for living log farming too for mass producing bramble husk.
  • Wurt for beyond easy mass-marble farming
  • Winonas catapults help and synergise alot with walters slowdown rounds for killing bee queen which is the only boss Walter has problems melee fighting and is encouraged to use slingshot only.

A strength of Walter is his ability to assimilate other character's abilities even when playing solo to cover his weaknesses, its unfair to deny this strength. It's one of the reasons I stick by him even in longer lasting worlds.

No doubt that Walter can take advantage of other people's perks just as well if not better, just thought involving other characters was a little roundabout for talking about a "Walter" strat. Definitely good advice though! I'll be trying Walter for the first time next world, and I've already heard a TROVE of good information and tips from the couple of Walter threads that have been blowing up as of recent.

How is Wurt good at marble farming? Just because her merms can mine marble shrubs? Isn't Maxwell better at this?

Because maxwell is limited to 6? Shadow servants.

Wurt can craft a hundred merms to mine and if you switch out you can still use them to mine for you I.e as walter. Combine merms with lazy forager and this is alot better than needing to switch back to Maxwell everytime you want to farm marble in a less efficient way.

gosh theres been a LOT of walter related threads lately.

This sounds kinda fun, but could be a bit slow imo cause you need to be in person all the time while for marbles you just have to grow them as ur away doing something else, and use weather pain and lazy forager once its lvl 3.

My strat for stacking cursed rounds, (If you don't like farming ruins or you play in a pub where its difficult at times)...archives. You get some fragments from the walls, and you can activate it to get the ambrosia craft and farm fragments from dust moths. You give them dust once in a while and go do other **** in the meantime.

And yeah I know, sounds lame to farm dust moths but, you are getting thulecite fragments in a safe way out of salt (which isn't hard to farm as Walter and you can farm like a stack in 1 day), and from rocks and nitre (that you can get in seconds from the earthquakes in caves)

ALSO, pudgy + enlightened crown + cursed rounds is goated

That sounds neat, specially now that the salt gathering experience has been greatly improved.
A couple of questions:
How often do you have to visit the archives, and how much do the average archives produce? (Just estimative, not exact numbers)

I mean, would it be enough for an every day or “often” use of the rounds, or it’s better just to stockpile for bosses?

You can also fit an extra 3.3 sanity/min with thulecite body armor, during fights, I think (with all that you said + armor) it would give about 19.5 sanity/minute. Pretty cool!
