Make Grown Tallbirds Stay Friendly

Recommended Posts

I feel like the tallbirds you raise should stay friendly. It feels like that system is unfinished or missed potential after all the time and effort you put in to raise a fully grown Tallbird. I think it would be really cool to have a tallbird companion. Raising them from eggs is such a cool system, but it's almost invalidated by the fact that your ultimate reward is having to kill the companion you've grown attached to.

Maybe there could be an item you craft for them to keep your Tallbird as a friend. I just think the massive time and effort investment for raising a Smallbird to adulthood should have a worthwile payoff. I honestly also just love the design of the Tallbirds.

You don't really get to poplulate it with Tallbirds, though. They don't create a new nest where you can start farming the eggs and Tallbirds. You could get that same result by luring a Tallbird to a certain area and then putting it to sleep or something to lose aggro. It takes 28 days to raise a Smallbird into a Tallbird. That's nearly a season and a half of feeding and protecting against hounds and other enemies. Especially for the first 10 days. They should just let you keep the Tallbird you raised as a companion as the payoff of the whole Tallbird parenting system. I've been playing this game for over 10 years, and one of the only things I've always wanted since the beginning was for the grown Tallbirds to stay friendly, because it feels like that whole system isn't complete without that.

I'll also admit that part of it is entirely emotional and personal to me. I've raised birds. I have parrots that I've raised. My parrotlet mimmicks the ambient bird noises in the game. He mimmicks the Tallbird attack noise. I hate raising Smallbirds into Tallbirds just to pointlessly and cruely beat them to death. Maybe Klei will read my suggestion and make player-raised Smallish Tallbirds grow into Friendly Tallbirds. It's worth a shot.
