Is there any character you haven’t played in DST? If so why?

Wormwood, because farming is incredibly easy and food isn't really a problem in this game. (so long as you dont lurk at base.)

The idea that wormwood is mainly a farming character is newbie misinformation tbh.

Hes always been one of the better fighters since Hamlet.

And now even more so with all the tweaks hes gotten in DST and his skill tree.

i think its the "no heal food" part that makes alot of people think that hes realy not good for combat...wich i do think that to myself aswell, i mean he is normal damage, and everyone can pick up a hambat or something and do kill a boss, just dont get hit

I have never played any character other than WX and Wurt, despite having nearly 1k hours. And only about 20 of those hours are in WX. I fell in love with Wurt's gameplay and while I'm quite familiar with the other characters gameplay, I just have no desire to play them myself. Il always miss the 33% veggie bonus on Wurt and making my merm army.

a damage multiplier isnt the only thing that makes a good fighter. I dont really understand what u mean to say with the hambat part.

Wormwood has innate movement speed bonus without occupying an equipment slot, easy sanity manipulation for NM fuel farming and dreadstone helmet wearing, living log production for ruins and shadow magic crafts like dark sword and bat bat,

aoe damage with bramble husk and with the skill u dont need to get hit to trigger it, bramble trap for unique combat strategies especially with the skill. These two things make Wormwood one of the best AFW killers.

easy access to moonshrooms for cheap and long lasting sleep + sleep resist through cooked caps, shroom cake and fun quirky strats with lunar funcap and bunnymen, easy access to sanity food for CC crown through green shrooms.

two 900 hp combat pets that u can summon anywhere and that can easily tank single target enemies for you, especially useful in the ruins.

If u like beefalo combat he can easily grow blue caps or wild tomatoes for healing.

And post rift once NM fuel and shadow magic perks lose effectiveness he gets the best armor in the game; brambleshade, extra damage on the BS sword and any future brightshade melee weapons and root with the brightshade armor which has some unique combat use cases or can grant huge amount of safety in dangerous fights if ur inexperienced. And he can also make good use of the shadow maul.

If u can clear the ruins for purple gems for batbats thats ur pre-CC crown in-combat healing solved and the longer you play on a world the easier healing should become. Not in the least because wormwood is one of the best BQ killers. Acid rain makes nitre super plentiful for compost wraps and once u have a fig tree, tree jam becomes easy cheap healing.

Thats all off the top of my head, theres probably some things i am forgetting.

Wormwood is what a fun combat character should be instead of just dumb high numbers or life leech on top of natural armor perks

I've been going through every character's with skil trees to gather insight, so I've ended up playing most of them. I think at this point the only survivor I haven't touched is Wes, just bc i'm not interested in challenge characters.

Of the ones I've tried recently:

  • Wendy, Woodie, Willow: Fun survivors, no notes
  • Wurt, Wigfrid, Winona, Wx-78: Survivors I generally enjoy playing, but not a fan of how long it takes to get most of their perks up and running.
  • Wortox: Eating souls is slightly undertuned right now, but is good other than that.
  • Warly, Wormwood: Fun survivors, albeit don't actively match my more exploratory playstyle.
  • Wilson, Wolfgang: Really just default playstyle with a some minor changes. Not something i enjoy playing, so much so after near maxing all other survivors insight, I haven't gotten more than one point for Wolfgang.

The rest of the survivors I'm waiting for skill tree to dig into fully, but am particularly interested in Wanda, Walter and Maxwell.

Never got the no heal food being a downside. Wormwood can bramble husk tank hordes of spiders for lots of silk to convert to tent/siesta for non-boss healing and loads of spiders glands that can be converted to non-spoiling healing salves for boss fights.

Tho i prefer healing salves to healing food for every character just because i don't like worrying about food rotting.

The speedrun culture around the game has a very heavy stigma against tents/sleeping, and nothing is as fast for healing as just chucking a billion pierogi or blue caps.

not even a speedrunner, i am just a person that dont play wormwood because....i simply dont like it, most of the time i cant even get pierogi in random puplic server simply because those random wolfgangs love to seize everything and boss around everyone...or because i just have no need for it

You lose barely any health but gain 10x more in healing salves. Any damage u do take you can heal up in a tent/siesta to save glands. It's a very quick way to amass loads of unspoilable healing

I'm not blaming anyone in this thread, it's just that DST content is mostly centered around 2 extremes, either oneshot videos of people picking the game up and obviously being bad at it (which is fine and entertaining), or experienced players doing their best, rushing bosses and the likes. Sleeping is an excellent casual slow strat to regen and survive, but it's not fit for a boss rush, thus it is very uncommon in the collective conscience of players because they're rarely exposed to sleeping's benefits. With a tent, you don't need to be good at securing sources of healing or sanity, just food, and food is very easy to come by, any new player can hoard berry bushes, or a tiny bit later build bee boxes or pig houses.

Relaxed playstyles in general are very rarely talked about, even though they're great for people to acclimate to the game.

not really, there're a lot of videos that'ren't about people playing extremely poorly nor extremely well, e.g. farm set ups, mega base tours, streams with people playing casually e.g. with own viewers, poorly made guides etc. but even people that make those videos usually don't use sleeping because getting forced to go afk for a minute or multiple sucks

True, but I had normal gameplay videos in mind. Farms are a presentation of a more or less useful, well, farm. Megabase tours are for creative players and those who enjoy seeing their creations, but someone making an awesome map in Minecraft while great isn't what I'd consider normal Minecraft gameplay. Casual streams are just something I find boring, and I simply dislike the live nature of it, I prefer being able to watch at anytime and something at least a bit edited to remove the boring parts.

Playing with my duo when we were both very mediocre though, especially since we went in the caves in summer, we used tents in abundance.

Most of the characters I haven't played is mostly due ot me not having made the time to play as them yet. I try to play someone new every time I play.
However I can say that characters that seem the least interesting to play are left for last unless a rework/skill tree makes them seem more interesting to play as.

I’ll answer the opposite and tell you the characters I’ve played.

when I first got don’t starve on PlayStation I only played Wickerbottom and Wendy for fairly obvious reasons I think. But after buying DST on steam I almost exclusively played Maxwell until wormwood was released. When wormwood was released he was the only character I ever played. As the other dlc characters came out I played them a bit but always went back to wormwood. When Wurt’s skill tree was announced I started playing her in the beta and have basically played her since then. In the last three days I’ve had fun playing as Maxwell again.

I won’t lie. I love wormwood and I think he might be the most well designed character in the entire game, but he’s actually super mid. B-teir at best

As a Wormwood main, I agree and love the boi to death. But please explain to me how he's one of the best BQ killers? In a group setting sure I can agree, me and one Wig with heart rending were able to just hold F and go to town, but solo? That fight is too much tanking for the boy to do alone easily. In my solo worlds I just pray for Klaus to drop bundle bp or use gunpowder on her.

Characters I never want to play: Wolfgang, Wes, Webber, and Walter

Bramble traps and moon shrooms. With his skills he can improve those.

Also I legit never played anyone else aside from Wilson and Maxwell, and even then I only played Maxwell once and his world was still stuck at day 29 lmao.
