I have a couple of questions mainly about playing as Wigfrid?

• Which skills affect beefalos? For example, defense-boosting skills like Planar Defense, Mystic Resilience, and Commander's Helm Enhancement I.
   
• Which songs affect beefalos? Specifically, Heartrending Ballad and Dark Lament.
   
• I'm wondering, how do we know when Dark Lament is active after singing it, since it doesn’t have an indicator like other songs? Or do we need to spam it periodically to ensure the buff is still active? By the way, how long does the buff last?
   
• I have 1 skill point left. Which skill should I upgrade?
   

I'm a player who wants to focus on beefalos, which is why I chose this character. If you have any tips for using Wigfrid with beefalos, feel free to recommend them.

Skills:

• Neither Mystic Resilience nor Commander's Helm Enhancement I affect the amount of planar damage your beefalo takes while mounted.
• Neither Shadow Chanteuse nor Lunar Melodist affect your damage taken or received against aligned creatures while on a beefalo.
• Currently the only methods of improving beefalo defense are: Battle Saddle, Nightmare Saddle, and Garlic spice.
• Commander's Helm makes it so that if you get knocked off your beefalo (i.e. by Nightmare Werepig), the animation is much faster and you don't get flung as far.
• Battle Rond will count as armor for the player against ranged attacks (i.e. bishops) while on a beefalo.

Songs:

• Heartrending Ballad and Clear Minded Cadenza will trigger while attacking with beefalo, but only affect players, not the beefalo.
• Dark Lament and Enlightened Lullaby will not affect beefalo damage taken or received against aligned creatures.
• Fireproof Falsetto will make the player immune from fire that would normally damage them while on a beefalo (the beefalo takes no damage from this regardless).
• Bel Canto of Courage works as normal.
• Weaponized Warble will affect ranged weapons (i.e. staves, gloomerang) while on a beefalo, but otherwise does nothing.

Dark Lament does have an indicator, it looks like this:. It lasts as long as you have enough inspiration to maintain it (so 16.66 inspiration for 1st song, 50 inspiration for 2nd song, 83.33 inspiration for 3rd song)

 

As for what skill to pick next, I think I would pick Battle Rond Enhancement I if you're set on the skills you already have. The duration helps for blocking Celestial Champion's phase 2 spin attack, if you ever decide to use it for that.

If you want to focus on Beefalo, I recommend you playing as Wendy or Maxwell.

Although Wigfrid has a beefalo skilltree, she's actually has terrible match with beefalo.

A tanking ornery battle saddle beefalo combined with a battle rond tanking commander helm wigfrid is the most fun playstyle for wigfrid.

If your commander helm takes too much damage or if ur health is too low, mount battle saddle ornery to continue tanking to reheal both wigfrid and helm.

Ornery beefalo definitely does synergise with a tanking playstyle for wigfrid and turns her into a press f to win character. Ornery is also good for passively regenerating her helm when tank fighting regular mobs.

The drop in dps in using an ornery as wigfrid is well worth the complete tankiness it provides.

Dont listen to people who say an ornery beefalo is a bad match up for wigfrid... they couldn't be more wrong.

I gotta agree with Gashzer in this one, sure you can have more value out of the ornery beef with any other chars but Wigi is by no means bad with them, she still got some QOL who can make the early game way less tedious, and if you like beefalo combat it will probably be of your liking as well.

Why on earth would you EVER skip the Elden Spear? It’s a weapon that Repairs Itself, and can be used to dash across gaps of water (not sure about cave void..)

Beefalos are cool and all but, the spears going to be able to gross gaps that your Beefalo will have to run long tracks of land around. Plus- It’s a Infinity Durability weapon if used right…

Nah battle rond is the more game changing weapon from day 1. Being able to tank things you shouldn't like enraged dfly triple pound, CC phase 2 spin and klaus pounce + double hit completely change how you can play the game like no other weapon can.

Kiting or kite dashing with the elden spear is just not as game changing hence not as fun/useful in my eyes.

Even as a beef tamer I myself wouldn't skip Elden Spear, but some beef tamers may just prefer fighting on a Beefalo even when it's inefficient. Individuals like that are why Bee Mines and Chilled Amulets still exist as they always have, sometimes the worse method feels more fun. As Gashzer indicated, they like playing with Beefalo as a "phase 2", when their health gets low. Though they are wrong about Ornery and Wig being a good pair to my knowledge, it has some fun synergies but a rider(and even default) is almost flat out better[citation needed]. But those fun synergies are why Fusethebest would skip Elden and Gashzer plays with Ornery. (I think I forgot to mention that Fusethebest did state they prefer playing on a beefalo, so they probably can't even use Elden most of the time, so I'll just mention it here)
Furthermore, between the two weapons in the skill tree: Battle Rond is the safer option, even if Elden is the better option in boss fights and mobility. More importantly, they are two wildly different options, thus providing two wildly different playstyles to possibly enjoy, some players even use of them both I believe.
