Lunar island isn't dangerous enough

The lunar island is really intimidating the first time you go there, but then there's practically no danger, which doesn't feel right. There's no need to manage your enlightenment, because gestalts are more of an annoyance than an actual threat.

I think either the gestalts should do damage when they hit you, or there should be more hostile mobs around to threaten you when you get put to sleep, which would help make the place feel a little more hostile like I think it should be.

The lunar island and how challenging it is is entirely dependent on the RNG of what spawned on it and how big it is.

Gesthalts hit you but they’re not meant to kill you, when they hit you they drain your hunger a bit, which is the “challenge” of the Island, almost all food sources on this island will either try to kill you, or run away from you.

They don't drain your hunger, they raise your sanity/lunacy by 10.

I was thinking about wavy or the shadow claws. Wavy jones is mechanically more interesting than the entire enlightement mechanic

When you are forced to sleep your hunger drains a little faste. Anyways, i dont think klei added it as a "challenge" because nobody with 2 brain cells goes sailing without food or a plant to get it and, even if you somehow lose your food, there are stone fruits, kelp and spiders...any player with more than 10h of play time can survive
