Make some of the new content pre Shadow Rift

Recommended Posts

I really feel like locking a lot of the new content behind Shadow Rifts takes a lot out of the excitement of a new update. The Icker and Mimic specifically I think would be fine to spawn before then. Would be cool so we actually get to experience the content more over the course of a game. My play group doesn't play much past late game anyway, we start new worlds, and mimic feels like something that would fit better early regardless, as its more of a funny inconvenience than a threat. Icker could spawn in a weaker version before the rifts, and get powered up after, like the Lurking Nightmare. I also don't think the preserve would be particularly powerful or game changing early since it only having a single slot makes it impractical compared to salt boxes which are available as soon as you decide to set sail.

Let us see the new stuff more!

I would really like more enemies along the lines of the Lurking Nightmare (appears pre-rift, gets stronger once the rifts are open). Weaker pre-rift mimics would be neat, although I don't think the Icker would make sense since it's supposed to be congealed miasma (that and I think Ickers suddenly ambushing you should probably stay a late-game concern).

Playing a world with rifts enabled day 1 is possible, but some challenges like the brightshades might be annoying.

Not really.. Brightshades are no more or less annoying then needing to fight a Pigmen for its pigskin before you can start crafting football helmets and Hambats.

In fact, Brightshades can be used to help you in many ways such as, with hound waves, with seasonal bosses, with mass extinction of Beefalo that are overpopulated, The only real issue with Brightshades is how often they respawn in the same exact location after you kill them

But as far as being a big scary threat, Rabid Rabbit King > Deadly Brightshade Trio.

Now if the Brightshade spawned Lureplants around it to protect itself, if it spawned Hamlets walking Venus flytraps as minions to protect it, mayyyyyybbbbeee I could see it as being a threat.

But until then, they’re easier to kill then fighting a Beefalo or Treeguardian.
