【DLC idea】 Oxygen not included Space Station DLC

Space Station DLC

1. A single large planet plus three layers of space, low Earth orbit, geostationary orbit and high orbit
There could also be one or two asteroids with a layer of space as long-term targets
And to build a new rocket system, consisting of a first stage rocket, a second stage rocket, a rocket fairing and a booster, and a modular construction of the satellite
To dramatically increase the cost of building and flying rockets, each rocket is disposable
So our rocket cockpit is going back to being modular instead of spaced out! You'd have to build the interior yourself
In the science and technology section, the third level technology needs to send satellites to three different orbits, which produce different amounts of disk analogs to unlock the third level technology points and of course different orbits require different rocket capacity
And level 4 technology needs to be produced and researched on the space station

2. Play with a focus on modularity
Rocket satellites and space stations are modular
The cost of launching a rocket will remain high until the three-stage final technology recoverable rocket is revealed, requiring the player to launch it bit by bit
The space station also needs to launch the most central core module before assembling other modules, and the core module has a robotic arm of subsequent upgradable length, which can grab the subsequent space station module for assembly
A module has four interfaces, up and down, left and right, which can be arranged and combined by themselves
No direct construction is allowed in the tracks, instead the spaced out is replaced by a combination and arrangement of different sections! The construction of the cockpit interior for this play
The way to achieve this is to use the core module's robotic arm to grasp and reassemble, referring to the International Space Station
Different modules have different sizes, such as 3*5 or 6*6
There are also different sizes of the rocket fairing, and the modules you build need to be smaller than the fairing size to be carried by the rocket

3. After the construction of the space station, we can use four-level technology to point out fully recyclable heavy rockets to develop high orbit, build space factory modules, space test modules
The ultimate goal of DLC can be set as the moon landing or satellites to capture asteroids, of course, in order to fit the theme of natural difficulty or flow to spaced out! Very different
The moon could be landed directly on an ultra-high capacity rocket or it could be built in orbit around the moon and then landed, as was the case with the Apollo and Artemis programs
The asteroid capture is also used to launch a high-capacity rocket aimed at the asteroid into a high orbit to capture the time, of course, we launch rockets also need to stick to the time window

Finally, this description should also be a complete set of gameplay, that is, I do not know how difficult it will be if it is made, whether it is suitable for hypoxia, I personally think it is difficult to say, how to balance ground construction and space station construction is also difficult, the space station set long-term missions will inevitably occupy the development space of the ground. And it may be more difficult for new people to get into the pit. In general, it is just an immature imagination. I hope you can give suggestions for improvement.

we already have 2 rocket systems, making a 3rd would be a bad call

also it is essentially guaranteed that we wont be getting another "Spaced out" level dlc with a major expansion/revamp of systems (essentially oni 2.0), since that dlc caused a major split in the code base; in the last dlc related posts they said to expect content pack dlcs (like frosty planet):  a new asteroid, a few new plants, critters and elements and some gimmick to the planet (geothermal pump in case of FP).

Actually, your design isn't very engaging; establishing bases on space stations and asteroids is almost identical. I think a standalone Spaced Out DLC would be a great idea. However, the recent update in DLC2 means that in Spaced Out, once you break out of Ceres and move to other planets, the gameplay remains the same as before. The “base game” play on Ceres still presents challenges.

I believe DLC3 should completely abandon the current rocket system to make the game more interesting. Otherwise, no matter how many new devices, animals, or plants are added, the gameplay experience will still be limited.

Oh, first of all, please forgive my poor English translation. I used a direct translation from Chinese. In the Chinese community, players have raised the most comments about my idea in terms of game optimization and frame count. I wonder if adding low-Earth orbit map space to several planets will really lead to this. Of course, please don't think about Spaced Out, which is a huge number of planets.

The lack of attractiveness of the space station is due to the ease of landing on planets in DLC.

To land on a planet, it is necessary to first establish a space station on Earth and then push the space station into the orbit of the planet.

The current command module lacks many micro life support devices, resulting in all designs being very ugly.

I agree. Shift focus from expansion and planetary exploration, to sustainability, survival, and exploration of the home planet! Seems like decent opportunity to add some form of factions of tribes!

Think of a Classic ONI start, big huge map, but as you expand.. BAM! You run into another colony expanding their own survival base. This could allow for trading, specially unlocked research (Similar to what they did with DLC2, but not exact), or even offer a different "species" of "dupe," that could potentially join your colony! Deciding to live harmoniously with other tribes, or war and conquer!

I'd dare to go in a different direction.
Perhaps a new DLC can include more dangers and disasters. Such as:

  • Deadly diseases, as it was in the early game
  • Malfunctions in machines and constructs, under certain conditions.
  • Fire effects
  • Scenario where a colony needs to evacuate before Cycle XXX.
  • Rogue robots or dangerous critters.

Obviously all of this won't be for a first time player.
