Morb rework for the morb lovers?

Recommended Posts

Morbs are a potential source for polluted oxygen. However, the number of morbs necessary to make a useful amount of oxygen is a little absurd. As such, using them as an actual source of polluted oxygen is a potential source of slowing down the game.

The only thing preventing me from getting infinite morbs is software performance, which I feel is the wrong tradeoff. It seems that there ought to be trade-offs in game mechanics, not performance.

It would be possible to fix the performance issues by making morbs merge into a single more productive morb. However, that would leave morbs as an unbalanced feature of the game, an infinite, scaling source of polluted oxygen.

So, it would make sense to provide some balance to morbs that makes them useful but not perfect for infinite polluted oxygen. Perhaps they could produce heat when they release oxygen, or produce cold. Either way, they would eventually kill themselves off (and cause other problems) if you don't temperature control their area. Or perhaps they could produce CO2 or sour gas in addition to polluted oxygen, which are much harder gasses to find a use for (at least early on). Or, perhaps they could require some food/other input to keep alive like other critters.

Overall, I love the morbs, but I'm dissatisfied in their simplicity and the lack of gameplay balance.
