Confused with rocket power circuitry

Recommended Posts

Cheers. My whole time with SO rocketry, my understanding of power grids w.r.t. rockets was this:

  • A rocket (or any stack of modules) has a hidden circuit, generated when a platform, or a power-related module is built.
  • Rocket modules (engines, solar panels, batteries) always connect to this circuit as soon as they are built.
  • The hidden circuit can be accessed on the map and merged with player-buildable circuits by connecting those buildable circuits to:
    • A power outlet fitting (spacefarer interior).
    • Power port on rocket modules that have them.

By these rules, there should be no difference between connecting a planetoid's power grid to a rocket solar panel, vs. rocket battery. And yet, the former doesn't work - according to in-game's circuit info, the circuits in this configuration remain separate, and I'm left wondering what is solar panel's power port even for, if it doesn't connect to either the panel, or the interior's circuit.

At the same time, I'm fairly certain I've seen a few bases/designs where a non-space-worthy stack of solar panels was used for power generation. I'm not a fan so I didn't pay much attention, but I don't recall them having to add a battery module to extract power from the rocket solar panel:

You are correct. I did not know they had to be connected to batteries and only saw that they produced power (that can't be used). 2 of the panels should be removed for batteries which does significantly hurt the power output of Mercury Lamponator 9000.

Well that's a bummer. So this never worked, and orphan rocket solar panels providing power to planetoid is just a Mandela effect?

All part of my evil plan to spread misinformation. It is possible to stack the batteries directly on the solar panel, but that's probably too exploity for most people (and in that case it's better to horizontally stack the solar panels anyway)
