Apothecary issues

Recommended Posts

So with the new dlc some buildings using water got insulated so water won`t freeze inside them while dupes operate them. Sadly the apothecary was overlooked and you still get a solid tile spawn on it when trying to make basic pills to cure food poisoning (and that one can be annoying early on on the new planetoid).

Second issue is coal. It`s used for a few of the recipies but some planetoids (including the new one) don`t have access to it. But now we can make refined carbon out of wood. It would make sense if the recipies used that instead. It`s medicine after all, the ingredients should be refined. And it`s not like refined carbon is high tech, the kiln is unlocked pretty early while carbon itself has no uses before steel.

Actually not sure why it isn't wood->coal in the kiln instead of wood-> refined carbon. It would make more sense to me, and solve the lack of coal issues on the frosty DLC.

Wood-> refined carbon has 0.5 efficiency, while wood->pdirt (ethanol distiller)->coal (sage hatches with 100% conversion)->refined carbon has 0.27 efficiency. So we get 87.5% more refined carbon per kg or wood from the new recipe than what we used to get from the sage hatch route, which invalidate the sage hatch route entirely. They used to be a viable route for late game diamond production, now they are only viable if that is your only way to get coal - if you have access to hatches.

To give some more relatable numbers as example, you get :

- 88,89kg/cycle refined carbon per arbor tree (sage hatch route) vs

- 166,67kg/cycle refined carbon per arbor tree (new kiln recipe route).

Anyway, I think wood should turn into coal and then have to be refined into refined carbon in the kiln. The ratios are so good with the kiln that even with the intermediary step, sage hatches would actually be entirely irrelevant. For them to remain viable would require the devs to lower the numbers on the wood->coal/refined carbon route.
