Need keybind for deconstruct selected, + additional deconstruct tweak

Recommended Posts

Finding myself frequently selecting single building then clicking the deconstruct button near bottom right corner of the screen as there very often are layers behind which I don't want to touch. Obscured objects may not be immediately visible without cycling through all the layers, which is impractical. A binding for said button would make things a lot smoother and more enjoyable.

Additionally, or perhaps as an alternative, tweaking the current deconstruct tool would also help. Currently when selecting a foreground object, then hitting the deconstruct binding ( X ), it still defaults to deconstruct everything, any layer. It would be better if it defaulted to foreground only ( relevant layer ), the way it already works for pipework, wires and more. Deconstruct "all" would still be available as default when no structure was selected beforehand.

Select the deconstruct tool, then look at the bottom right of the screen, there is a selection menu that allows you to choose which layers are deconstructed, including e.g., only buildings, or only background buildings, etc.

I think that is the tool you are asking for.

thanks, but that doesnt help me cause it requires the same extra click without keybind. and then needs to be changed back again with another click. checkboxes arent practical.

To clarify what i mean with the tweaking of deconstruction. When you are in the build mode for wires, as an example, deconstruct defaults to wires automatically. I would like this same thing to work for any structure. Even normal base floors. Without the need to manually click a checkbox on and off in the corner of the screen. I initially forgot to mention the build mode step, as it is required for the current functionality (which currently only works for some types of buildings)

After some further thought and closer examination, default deconstruction mode seems to be tied to the active overlay. Be that power, plumbing, or other. As foreground has no separate overlay, default would be "all".

My goto method of constructing or deconstructing is selecting the object in the world, then hitting B, which copies it, but also brings up the relevant overlay, making the deconstruct tool automatically switch to the active layer. As "buildings" got no separate overlay, there is no such easy way of accessing the "buildings" mode for deconstruction, that I can find, anyway :) please add one.

Or as mentioned earlier, adding a binding for the button that deconstructs the currently selected structure, would help a bit.
