    • Serendipity, I randomly stumbled on my main, and liked playing with them ever since.
    • Sentimental value, I mained them feeling nothing at first and grew attached to them emotionally.
    • Strength, the character has some of the strongest perks in the game.
    • Survival, the character's perks, regardless of whether they are the strongest, have helped me immensely in surviving in the game.
    • Simplicity, the character's perks are unintrusive and allow me to experience as much content in the game as possible.
    • Self-inflicted suffering, the character challenges me as their playstyle, stats etc force a mroe challenging experience.
    • Story, I simply liked the character's backstory, and their shorts.
    • Second opinions, I mained them upon recommendation, whether by a guide or a friend or a stranger.

I couldn't find a category for why I enjoy the characters I play, i've probably just missed it though to be fair.

I just like their gameplay loops I guess, I'm always ultimately going to do the same things in each world - but I guess I like my mains cause I find their day-to-day stuff kinda fun.
Possibly with the exception of Maxwell, but if i'm playing him i'm probably more focused on megabasing and will just tackle bosses when I need something they have decoration-wise (statue/blueprint/post-rifts stuff/toadstool lighting etc)

Throwing in my two cents here too i g!

Spoiler

Said it sometime before and it's bothering me again so ill get if off my chest again

I used to main Wendy and Wickerbottom and Wormwood because they were strong and i got gud using them, but never up to beating afw or reaching current content

Then (TW grief)

Spoiler

On August 12, 2023, 8:43 pm, my grandmother passed. First taste of loss I've experienced.

And I mained Warly because i resonated with his backstory about him caring for his Maman, and as a means to move forward with my own grief. (Though I know better than to totally equate myself with Warly's purely fictional narrative and character.

I used to feed my own grandmother like Warly did in the short. I sleep in her old room now. The anniversary of her passing is coming up, and I shall pay her a visit. Delayed grief hits hard, sometimes, when i least expect it. But i'm moving on well and I like to remember her smile and laugh whenever she used to be lucid when im troubled. She was a wonderful woman and my first teacher.

I remember the first time I saw Warly's short back before covid hit. I didn't have audio at the time, faulty devices and whatnot. Still wept.

In ingame terms, I beat AFW and BQ solo for the very first time using Warly, made my farming guide using Warly. So while sometimes i will play as my previous mains Warly is here to stay. And when i come back to play this September after what i need to do has come to pass, he's going to be the first character I'll ever experience moonstorms, Celestial Champion, and post rift content with.

Ive never tried warly before, but that post was so interesting that I might give him a try.

Usually I dont interact with character mechanics too much until later on in my worlds, I just play characters that allow me to do my playstyle unimpeded.

Wormwood was my first main, before that I just picked some random character and never really stuck with anyone world to world. He was the first character I grinded spools for. I basically unraveled all my cosmetics and did all the codes to get him pretty early on. He kinda made playing other characters feel weird because whenever I healed from food I would be surprised lol.

When Woodie got his skill tree I decided to pick him up. Then I just killed bosses and grinded inspiration, and the rest is history. His downsides were unobtrusive to my enjoyment of making cute bases and farming crops.

The person I picked up after that has been Wickerbottom, but I never really make more than 2-3 books on my worlds as her. Most of the time I forget/don't really interact with books and just play as wilson that cant sleep. Idk I just have a weird attachment to her even though I don't use what makes her broken op
