ThemInspectors
Most of the content now is late game focused, for the veterans and require a fair amount of skill to access and enjoy. Not only that, but the game does not push you in the direction of facing the content head on. For example, the bosses like Fuelweaver, Celestial Champion, Beequeen Toadstool, Crab King, the list goes on - pose no real danger to the player and they need to seek them out intentionally as a challenge. This is okay, though they don't really have the "Everything is here to kill you, rush and prepare" feeling to them - there isn't any stress to them. After surviving for the first year, the core gameplay loop does not really evolve any further. There are the the seasons outside of Autumn, only three seasonal bosses (Deerclops, Bearger and Antlion) which try to go for the player and hounds. Only one of these was added since the original Don't Starve RoG. Taking a look back at the DS DLCs, one of the reasons that they were so worth it to play is because they had a new sense of hurry and adventure. Hamlet's seasons would change every 10 days and you need to rush down the aporkalypse clock before day 60 or else say goodbye to your world. Shipwrecked's Volcano left the entire season uneasy since you could be armageddoned at any minute. All of these keep players on their toes and remind them of the mandatory existential anxiety of survival, which is what the core of Don't Starve is. It's what separates it from other survival games like Minecraft and Terraria which have threats, but which the player can easily avoid or opt out of by turtling away. All of this to say is that I hope future content updates could give the time between day 60-200 some love, some new mechanics or some new bosses that make the game more difficult and hunt down the player, rather than adding difficult content that the player needs to hunt down. The stuff that was added, raid bosses, lunar rifts, etc. are great and have their place in the game and especially go far for people who are too good at Don't Starve and need things to do, but I think in some ways they are a bit removed from the essence of Don't Starve, and maybe some more stuff to bring out the original feeling of "Uh oh I'm done for." would be nice. Any similar or unsimilar opinions? Cheers! Castiliano
Don"t Starve has always had a reputation as a “game that comes to you” and has gained a lot of fans because of it. Your placement makes total sense! arubaro
We got 4736261 new bosses but only a bosses weaker than a beefalo comes to you, lord of the fruit flies. I think klei should stop adding optional content and start adding changes to the 4 seasonal loop that wasnt changed since antlion was added Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/158010-it-would-be-nice-to-have-some-more-mid-game-contentcrisis/#findComment-1733790 Share on other sites
