Next update prediction- Shadow riffs and cave qol?

There has not been a shadow version of the "host of horrors" update yet. Infact, no new shadow riff content has been added since the first shadow update (not including items like the spritz spray). 

So i feel like the next focus will be shadow riffs. I also feel like Klei might do cave qol along with it, just a gut feeling.

 

 

Maybe they will add pure horror versions of the ruins along with new cave qol, like an improved ruins, or some new creatures or biomes and stuff.

Mainly making the ruins more like the superior solo dont starve ruins. Not so much adding new items as things.

 

As for the horror ruins which will include new items and things, i have an idea what it would be like:

  • Powered up clockworks infused with pure horror. 
  • Nightmare lights can spawn inkblight outcrops. 
  • New ancient guardian boss varient.
  • New type of pure horror shadow splumonkey.
  • New ruins items utilising pure horror.
  • New shadow enemy.

i feel like making it focused on the ruins would produce the same issue where people skip 75% of the caves to reach one area.

imo it should be in said new biome or something.

I am talking about the shadow riff stuff, not the cave qol stuff.

 

Making a pure horror version of the ruins instead of a pure horror version of toadstool or any other boss is way more interesting for me since its a survival combat scenario. Also it is kinda a hotspot, so it makes sense this place is corrupted the most with fuel.

They have TONS of work in order to fix fhe cave, they will need a lot of qol and a lot of new features to make the process of loading into a cave worth it.

I dont know if you want toadstool with planar defense though

They need to add a ton to the existing cave biomes. It 100% cant be fixed in one update.

 

Red mushtrees? Cool looking, but nothing to gain.

Green mushtrees? Same as red. The bunny hutches dont make it unique since they spawn a lot in other biomes.

Rocky biome? Ignorable. Rock lobsters are not good enough to give them valie.

Swamp? Worse surface swamp.

Sunken forest? Worse surface forest.

 

 

The mud biome (and its connections), blue mushtree biome, and lunar grotto are the only things with anything to desire. The stalagmite spider caves are kinda ok as an in between biome but more stuff wouldn't hurt. The rest just provide stuff you can already get from the surface, but puts it more out your way.

Most of this could be tackled by new utility, mobs, and resources. Maybe some world generation changes.

Anything underground / shadow / biomes related will be celebrated by me! *shadow worshipping forever*

This as well. I wish I had more reason to spend times inside the caves, simply for the sake of being inside the caves / living in cave biomes / observing cave creatures

Anything that returns shadow/ruin-creatures to their old glory! [I felt like Lunar creatures were slowly taking over.]

i feel like THE main issue is that the caves are really big yet a lot of stuff can just.. be conveniently found on the surface

thats why stuff like the lunar grove and ruins are so special, they actually have stuff

The thing that kinda bothers me is that the cave biomes just look the same as ones on the surface with no new stuff added to them. It just makes caves seems like a lesser version of the surface.

I kind of wish the caves would be way more made like Hamlet underground regions [Mants homes and pig ruins stuff.] so that going there actually DOES feel like a completely different world [at least that's what it feels to me when entering those structures in Hamlet]

I have to admit, caves are more immersive because the darkness, pillars and such.

 

Its the one thing i believe they do much better than the surface.

Yeah, those were cool.

 

I kinda want those as caves inside caves.

I think they did a good job at improving the ocean content. I dunno if its perfect but this update was great at making the ocean more worthwhile and fun to explore, thats why I want a similar thing to happen to the caves. General QoL, maybe updates to toadstool and misery toadstool

Updates to the biomes in the caves to maybe change things up would be cool. Im not entirely sure what they could do, but I do think there should be pre-rift cave improvements.

I dont want them to do a crab king rework to them. They just need some small things.

 

Like making regular toadstool drop the mushlight guarinteed. Its probably the most dumb thing in this game that it has a chance to not drop it.
