goblinball
I really like how klei has been experimenting with affinities and stuff on the skill trees to make character’s skill trees more accurate to their lore while also making them stand out from the others. Winona’s in particular is fun, I like how it’s divided into shelves and she doesn’t have a particular affinity for either side because yknow she likes them both. I also like how wormwood’s is exclusively lunar aligned and it takes the name “skill tree” very literally and is shaped like tree branches since yknow plant guy. I’ve seen a lot of threads about ideas for individual perks but not really designs for character skill trees as a whole so I’m curious to see what fun ideas ppl could cook up me personally I’d like to see the perks on maxwell’s tree form the shape of runes like the ones in the codex umbra; and completing those runes gives bonus shadow perks (no lunar alignment obv). Not only would this look cool but I like to interpret it as maxwell relearning shadow magic and you collecting all the lines in a rune by getting the perks is like him learning how that rune works and how to do magic stuff. I also think it’d be cool if Webber’s skill tree was a spider’s web; instead of the perks being divided into a couple lines they’re all interconnected and you start at the center. Not only would this fit webber because yknow spider but I think it’d add alot of agency and depth to the skill tree because not only do you need to worry about what skills you want now but you also need to plan a route to be able to eventually get the perks you want later. Would you b-line straight to a perk at the ends of the web or take a more scenic longer route to pick up a few other perks that look interesting? I only now realize it doesn’t really make sense for this to be in the beta thread but I already wrote it and I mentioned winona’s beta skill tree so too bad I’m not moving it Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/156868-cool-and-unorthodox-skill-tree-designs/ Share on other sites
GreenBowers
I don't know exactly how they'd do it, but I feel Wickerbottom's skilltree looking like a book case would be cute. marshyds
Maxwell's could be the pages of the codex umbra, with you having to flip the page to unlock new skills. Skill tree icons would have their explanations next to them like, yknow, a book.
