Quality of Life for body slot items

Recommended Posts

a lot of body slot items like Puffy Vest  ,  Rain Coat no body use them because they are worse then backpack and i think if they have some slots like backpack they will be able to  compete with backpack  imagine if the  Rain Coat have like 5 slots were the backpack have 6 i think some players will start use them

I like Rain Coat. I don't get an Eyebrella when I play with friends (I let one of them keep it, since they need it more), and I'd much rather lose a body slot for Rain protection over a hand slot for Umbrella (and Rain Hat is a pain to make, so I never make it).

Puffy Vest requires me to go out of my way to get it, so I usually don't bother, but depending on the character I'd like having it... Namely, I'd much rather have a Puffy Vest and Commander Helm over a Log Suit and Beefalo hat with Wigfrid.

I dunno, I don't feel like I need a backpack for the most part? Like, it's useful before I get a base done, and it's useful in places like the Ruins... Otherwise, it's kinda unnecessary? I'd rather wear a Log Suit, usually.

you can summon an infinite amount of deerclopii per winter by using hostile flare iirc

Oh, I'm aware of this one, but we never did it. We were just doing other stuff in Winter.

Maybe we should have done it, I dunno, we just thought that fighting more bosses than necessary was not ideal.

... Oh, and we didn't have Glommer at the time either. I think we got it on day 51 or something. So no materials for Hostile Flare... Maybe we can try getting two Deerclops on 2nd Winter, I dunno.

Only problem with adding slots to clothing is that klei would need to make them drop like backpacks if you were to swap body slot items. I.e. swapping rain coat with inventory slots to mag amulet that has none would make the rain coat drop on ground like a backpack.

Right now if you ditch a backpack you can swap freely between body armour, mag and clothing without dropping anything. This is the primary benefit of not using backpack.

Backpacks are overrated anyway. Once you have a base going you dont need them anymore.

they're still beneficial because they allow you to go to base less often

Depends on what your priorities are.

Double stacking beefalo hat and buffy vest means you dont need to stand and heat up as often as thermal stone so time is made back there.

Rain coat, beefalo hat and lantern allows you to explore caves all fine an dandy during winter

The puffy vest and rain coat aren't used because the thermal stone and eyebrella completely outdo them. A lot of the under utilized clothing items in the game are something you would never choose to wear if you had other options. This isn't necessarily a problem though. I've used bad clothes in extreme cases because things went horribly wrong and I needed to claw my way out of a dicey situation. There are lots of little things in Don't Starve that might one day save you if you are aware of it.

If you want things like the puffy vest and rain coat used more often, you need to ask for buffs to them or nerfs to their superiors.

you can heat thermal up whenever you stop and you usually stop to do something before it goes gray if you get it to 90 degrees

i usually only do FW and toad during winter and rain is rarely an issue

Still doesn't beat 4 times insulation. And 4 times longer is a lot of extra time between reheating.

Winter cave rain is pretty common tho.

a thermal is almost as good as a beefalo hat since you can do whatever when it's heating up and it can go to 90 degrees instead of 70 so it's only about twice as much and heating a thermal up only requires you to ignite a tree/spawn a star, drop it and do whatever nearby

only during the 1st few days it seems, i sometimes get heavy rain when doing FW but iirc never when doing toad

But you still have to wait until it reaches 90 that's a whole extra 20secs of waiting around for less efficient insulation.

I can stand 10secs at a burning tree and be good to go for a surprising amount of time.

Plus insulation clothing synergies with my main walter and his camper tent. Get health/sanity while also heating up and drying off without needing a tree to burn or wasting a starcaller use.

you stand still for 70 seconds with clothes but you can do stuff nearby for 90 seconds with thermal

i usually don't even use up a full starcaller by the end of a playthrough and sleeping kind of sucks because standing still is boring, healing is usually unnecessary and sanity is solved if you play as maxwell/get bone helm, enlightened crown or shanter

Standing still is boring i agree. Thats why thermal stone sucks, i dont want to be stuck in an area reheating my thermal every 5mins when with double stacking tier 3 clothing its every 20mins.

Everyone is passing up some seriously nice QoL by not using body slot items.

I use thermal stone in winter (similarly to grm), and i use body slots in summer (because of luxury fan).

One could also use heating meals during winter, but my experience with those is kinda mixed. I don't understand the mechanics properly - that is, 1) how long they keep their temperature and 2) if they keep their temperature if bundled.

To the topic of OP: I disagree.
