A Refined Way To Implement Geometric Placement Functionality into the world of DST

Recommended Posts

So, I think the reason we have been waiting for this feature for so, so long is because it would be hard to implement on console. The reason for this is because the way structures are placed on console and PC are very different.

On PC, you merely move your mouse around and click where you want to place, and your character will move and place the structure their.

However on console, structure placement is tied to character movement, with it being placed at a set distance away from the side the character is facing no matter what.

Well here is my solution to this problem:

So first off, their would be a grid (obviously). The grid could have different settings such as a square grid and a hexagonal grid for different types of precise placing. There should be a setting to turn it on or off and potentially even the feature being tied exclusively to a craft-able item.

Now to get around adding it on console: Whenever you go to place down a structure, the grid is automatically enabled. To get the functionality of a mouse, you should be able to use the D-pad on a controller to move the structure around the screen, grid by grid. Basically, it should essentially function as a mouse but for console (only for when you are placing a structure. HOWEVER, you should also be able to turn on a setting or something so that you can turn on geometric placement when dropping an item on the floor as well. Whenever you decide to press the place button, your character would walk to the place you decided on and place the structure, just like on PC.

In the end, this would be so useful for making giant impressive builds like mega-bases. I want to build things like this so bad, but I know I will never get them to look good unless something like this will be added.
