Rift Dimensions

I am sure it would require a lot lot lot of work and time to do stuff like this, so it's either just a fun concept I decided to suggest knowing it won't be added, or (to my happiness) something that could be added in X years if the idea is good enough.

 

Grazers and gestalts must live somewhere, and they leave the rifts.

Same with Shadelings and the shadow trio.

2 dimensions full of challenges and hard planar enemies, each countered by the other side's equipment (shadow counters lunar, lunar counters shadow)

 

A couple of challenges I came up with:

1. Possibility of being trapped inside after the rift closes, and you need to wait for the new rift to open and find it.

2. Hard planar enemies with multiple attack patterns.

3. Bosses inside the dimensions?

4. New weather and environmental effects occuring only in those dimensions (fe. miasma, sleeping gas from grazers)

5. Periodical attacks of creatures that DO NOT WANT YOU there, because normal creatures don't belong inside the rifts.

6. Shadow rift could be fully dark, draining your light faster than usual. Maybe a craft that would let you create a portable Night Light refueled by Pure Horror could be made to counteract this?

 

Hosting a new server to create something like this would not be necessary I think. 

I don't know if it is a good idea as I don't know a lot about LUA or DST programming, but would it be possible to:

1. Generate the rift dimensions far far away in the main shard map.

2. Detect if the player is in the dimension or not, and block the map in the map screen so you cannot look at the main land when you are inside the dimension, and vice versa, making the illusion that the player is inside another dimension.

3. Code "biomes" that will have certain environmental effects, instead of the effects affecting the whole world itself, making unique weather and environmental effects for those dimensions possible when they are generated on the same shard as the main map.

4. Block the usage of magic items like the Lazy Deserter when you are inside the dimension, so you cannot teleport from the main land into the dimension with your friend, making it similar to the caves.

 

 

Seems like too much effort though.

Very interesting idea that would be cool to see implemented into the world of DST.

It seems only logical that the rifts would lead to another world on another end. The only problem I could think of is that there might be some issues with lag if it was implemented in a way similar to the caves. Definitely would take a lot of work, but I think it would be cool to see!
