Webber Skill Tree ideas :)

Recommended Posts

Hello fellow "Do Not Succumb to Calorie Deficit with Other Individuals" players, this is my first time posting here and I wanted to share some ideas that were.. most likely already shared here about Webber, but I would still like to give my personal outlook on this topic considering my unconditional love for Webber

First of all, may I start with my current opinion on Webber. He is in my opinion, a solid character all the way up until the content after you defeat Ancient Fuelweaver and Celestial Champion. I've lurked these forums before and I've seen discussion about planar damage, which is something Klei uses to make late-game gear more optimal for late-game bosses such as the recent Possessed Deerclops, Varg and Bearger, and planar damage is something Webber does not have access to as part of his kit. Skill trees seem to be heading towards this goal of giving the characters more strength when it comes to affinities and making characters do more damage against the opposing alignment while being more resistant to their own.

However, Webber's main way of dealing damage is through spiders. None of the spiders as of now deal any kind of planar damage, which is why I believe Webber should have access to new Lunar and Shadow spiders.

Very lazy edit here, but just to show the thing

I dunno what they can do, but I think it'd be nice if we had Lunar and Shadow spiders, for which you can craft switcherdoodles with Pure Brilliance or Pure Horror. Would be nice if they worked like Spitters instead of normal spiders, but these are just ideas.

Something else, would be to be able to turn a spider den into a modified one, turning all the spiders tied to it into another kind of spider!Dens.thumb.png.5a463b0ae0a32169c59ff12f56c33ba1.png

This would make going out to get certain types of spiders a lot less troublesome. Buuut it might be a bit OP, so debatable idea. But an idea nonetheless!

Finally, similarly to Wilson, being able to store spiders inside Webber's beard would be nice. Anyways, these are just small ideas, I'm in no way a game developer so you let me know if these are good or bad.

I also would love it if we had more whistles like the Webby whistle (because it's so cute), maybe something that gives buffs to your spiders temporarily? Haha anyways that's all for me, thanks for reading don't starvers

I think that low damage enemies (spiders) don't get affected all that much by planar damage.

So I don't think that most followers would require planar damage.

Having a spider that deals planar damage instead of normal damage would only have ~4 extra damage (normal spider deals 20 normal damage= 16 vs planar enemies), and since Webber uses hordes to deal with enemies, you end up losing just 25% of your damage, instead of losing more damage by using weapons with greater damage.

imo low damage hordes are the most efficient strategy for planar enemies, since multiple low damage attacks are resisted less by planar defense

to be more specific, p(1/2x)*2 > p(x) (with p being a function to represent planar entity defense and x being damage), so having damage split up into multiple attacks will ultimately create more damage against planar enemies

We already have lunar spiders: shattered spiders. Maybe Klei could give Webber a lunar alignment perk that buffs their attack rate and also makes half of their damage planar or something?

As for shadow spiders, letting Webber make a shadow spider den through a shadow alignment perk could work, or we could just corrupt Spitters with Pure Horror switcherdoodles like you said.

Love the idea of Webber being able to store spiders in his beard. I've always thought it'd be cute if Webber had a skill mirroring Wilson's beard skill but used differently. Maybe the spiders wouldn't lose hunger while stored in the beard? You'd be able to permanently have 3 pocket spiders :D
