The game's difficulty and judging content based off your skill level

But I have to learn how to do it & interact with content I don’t enjoy just so I can have a valid opinion about the type of content I actually DO enjoy.

Honestly just grind enough resources to cheese him more effectively than pc players do since you're on console, crab king deserves to be removed from the game with how god awful it is of a fight.

bee mines method is super cheap and consistent on console as well, there's no major difference to pc gameplay there. My guess is Mike got too close/far to crab king and he started using freeze attacks on bees, that's the only part that can go wrong with the bees method. More bee mines would not really help with this, he has to nail the right distance to CK. 

as in stay in the green area when you sail around him while bees are doing the work. Sorry for drawing skills

Yes, even using any of the bee methods, you still have to go back and forth with your boat (I think that Wickerbottom also is great for the extra grumblebess, and her temperature book, that unfreezes everything around her).
