Farsight Posted August 20, 2023 Share Posted August 20, 2023 With quick tests, I found that Slugs get 74 ticks to deposit their contents, if they can find a pipe before sleeping. This means that optimally, a Sponge Slug can expel 740kg of liquid, while a Smog Slug can expel 74kg of gas. Sponge Slugs currently usually drink slightly more than 740kg of liquid a day, if living in liquid. Smog Slugs currently usually suck slightly more than 37kg of gas a day, if living in 'suckable' gas. This number is consistent at multiple game speeds in my tests, so AI lag does not seem to be affecting the results. My test had a Smog Slug in high-pressure pure hydrogen, so it had plenty to suck at all times, This means that Smog Slugs are currently 1/2 as efficient as their Sponge siblings, and are also unable to even fully use their pipes at night. It seems like Smog Slugs should suck in twice as much gas each time they breathe, to make both slugs consistent, and to make their sleep time gas expulsion last the whole night. Seems like they were aiming for the same slug to pump ratio to keep the same efficiency. But pacu an crabs do that already. Would be ok with nerfing them a bit. It's just wasting CPU time, when the challenge of setting up a slug-pumping room is the exact same for 1 as for 2. Plus, because they only pump for 74/600 seconds each day, their real umping rate is currently about 62g/s... nowhere near the 500g/s a regular pump produces. Doubling that so that they can pump through the entire night like sponge slugs do would still only get them to 124g/s, which doesn't seem overpowering to me.
