Should DST have an Aporkalypse-like mechanic?

Recommended Posts

For those who don’t know, in the Hamlet dlc for the single-player game, you’re basically forced to the endgame before day 70 in order to prevent the aporkalypse.

Don’t Starve Together’s content, while abundant and high-quality, is mostly optional. I think the game could benefit from a forced endgame after a certain amount of days.

For example: after the second or third year, you need to help Charlie after defeating the Ancient Fuelweaver or help Wagstaff after defeating the Celestial Champion. If you don’t help them, the game starts ramping rapidly in difficulty for whatever reason.

What do you think?

I have always wanted something like that to be in DST. Personally, I think it would be better, if such event was impossible to skip. You would need to go through it in order to end it. Perhaps the new endgame items would help you fight it, thus incetivizing their switch.

No. Aporkalypse in Hamlet was never explained except for some vague quotes from pigs, how the hell can anyone figure out you can stop it using the calendar without looking at the wiki? If they really want to force you do something like this, at least explicitly state it, this game is already utterly unintuitive, stop making it more unintuitive.

As for your suggestion of killing AFW/CC, it's a bad idea. Summoning and fighting them normally is very annoying. Fuelweaver is a massive resource sink(weather pains, tons of sanity food etc etc), and the fight itself is not good either, he spams immunity shield every 20s, leaving very little room for actually attacking him. As for CC... Wagstaff mini game is definitely one of the most tedious task in this game, you have to kill the birds, hand him tools and clear out moon shards at the same time, this clearly is designed for multiplayer... I guess klei just abandoned solo players? Oh wait nevermind they've been punishing you for playing alone ever since ANR.

I can go on and make more rant about them but it's quite obvious that the aporkalypse like challenges shouldn't be tedious/annoying as those bosses currently are. If they want to introduce another thing you have to do every year, at least make it a real challenge rather than "craft this to win" or something like that.

Make that the 20th year and I’m good.
