Too many skill points?

Recommended Posts

This topic brings up a question whether "do we have too many points?". Some may argue that 15 is good, but perhaps we have so many points that, in the end, the skill tree does not mean new difficult and viable choices that create different ways of playing with the same character, but rather represents just a rework since with so many points we won't have to choose between two good options, because in the end we can have them all. I wonder if you guys feel very comfortable with tree perk choices?

Imo it varies widely from tree to tree.

If u wanna be a hard*ss and look at woodie’s tree then yeah he has too many points for how stellar each and every skill is. U can get curse embracer, a wereform mastery AND treeguard effigy for on demand insane followers basically and then cheaper planks and some faster gathering and then full moon immunity.

if u look at wormwood’s tree not even 27 skill points would feel like he has become very powerful or gained a lot lol.

idk about wolfgang’s situation.

I hope devs can redesign the whole skill tree system to solve what I think problems:

1. Make the skill tree part of the story arc and a endgame perk, rather than character rework.

2. improve Wilson’s skill tree and keep it unlockable from the beginning to make the distinction that his skill tree is character perk rather than endgame perk.

3. Nerf other character skill tree points to give Wilson’s skill tree a special status. If wilson has 15 points, others should have 10 maybe 5 points. This can be done by remove some filler skills in other characters and combine them into one. For example, wormwood’s 3 transformation skills can be combined into one.

The issue is that most skill trees don't have a consistent amount of total points to invest into, and the only tree that is almost fully consistent with the quality of all skills is Woodie, the power of skills needs to be consistent depending on how many points in total you need to use to get them (you have to think about all the skills you need to invest into before you can invest into said skill) between all of them with the exact same requirements. I know, to-mah-toe tomato.

I feel like lowering the skill points would essentially necessitate making celestial portal with how limited some of these trees are. Like, if I can only get let's say 10 points that means I can only go into one mastery and 2 other 3 skill branches. This basically segments trees as pick these when you spawn, change to these after you make celestial portal which is much less interesting than the current way where you can go with a mix easily.

It doesn't add anything interesting to take points away so I think the current amount is fine, you can mix and match well while still missing out on significant areas depending on WHERE you mix and match.
