How do I access Walter's base skin in the files?

Recommended Posts

I want to see his base skin in spriter, which I know how to do. Only problem is that he's a dyn, and I'm not sure how to access it. I'm assuming I'm not supposed to due to his skins being under the same file, which might be purposefully hard or impossible to access, but he comes with the game, so I'm not sure why I can't access him? What annoys me a bit more is that his base hat and Woby can be accessed.

I have been working on this for hours, and I probably cant even get pass it. I know he was meant to be locked, but he isn't so I don't understand why I can't access it? Any answers will help.

You're correct about DYN files. They're a file type meant for encryption for stuff like paid characters and skins Klei wants to protect. I don't know why his base files are in the game, maybe they forgot to put him in when they announced he was going to be free. Unless Klei changes that, you cannot access his files using Spriter.

you can!all free characters(including walter) actually have their basic skins in dyn files and their zip copies are just left undeleted, it started like from winona or walry can't remember exactly, thing is these dyn files aren't "actual" dyn files, they are zip files that have their file type changed manually via renaming, you can just replace .dyn with .zip in file's name and open it, which will give you .tex file of the character(note:works only with free characters, skins and dlc characters are still encrypted and can't be opened with this method)

Omg thank you so much! It works like you said it would! Only problem I find is that there's only a tex file, and I need a build.bin file to see it in Spriter. I do know that there is another way to see it in TEXTools, but I find that confusing and Spriter makes more sense to me. Is there a way I can get a build.bin file? Or do I have to use TEXTool?

in data->databundles there's big zip file called "anim_dynamics" that has build.bin files for all .dyn files, including for free characters
