Using the Boat Repair Kit on the cork canoe or Walani's surfboard out of the water should be an option

Right now you can only use the boat repair kit on a boat deployed into a body of water, which works for most boats, but there are two boats that can be placed in your inventory or dropped on the ground on land. I don't see why you wouldn't be able to use the repair kit on the surfboard or canoe when it's out of the water, and it would be more convenient than going all the way to the lily pad biome in Hamlet.
