wickerbottom There should be a tier below -33 sanity for the more understated books like: Arachno, Pyro and Tempering.

Overcoming Arachnophobia, Pyrokinetics Explained and Tempering Temperature are fun books to have in Wicker’s arsenal but i think -17 sanity (~half of 33) would be more appropriate for them when you compare their effects to that of her other -33 books. 

Making them just that little bit cheaper would make them more practical to use and incentivise using them more often.

Overcoming Arachnophobia has some (not all) use cases where Sleepy Time Stories is just the better option, if O.A. were cheaper to use you’d have more of a choice to make and the two books could more comfortably exist next to each other. Lower sanity cost would also make it more practical to use in the ruins where it has some good uses. 

Tempering Temperature most showy effect imo is instantly drying off players and inventories but at the cost of a chunk of sanity, ..the stuff that wetness would drain anyway if u didnt use the book. The temp reset is nice but a very fleeting effect for -33 sanity.  When u manage to be in a situation where u can use it to thaw players and mobs it feels great though. 
Id feel less bad about using it more often for temp control if it didnt cost a whole Salsa Fresca each time.

Pyrokinetics Explained is extremely niche but when that niche presents itself it does feel nice to save a lot of stuff from burning down. However, considering how few and far between situations like this generally are and how affordable other fire fighting measures (ice staff, w balloons, fan, flingo) are i think it could also stand to be cheaper to cast. 
the other firefighting measures also have the benefit of being more stackable, whereas Pyro only have 2 uses per book when away from ur bookcase… 

outside of griefer activity huge base fires just dont happen in my experience which means a simple ice staff is more than enough to fight the occasional small fires.
Using Pyro for small fires feels bad both because of the sanity cost and the small number of uses. 

I hope its not the fiery pen thats holding Pyro back from being made more effective because half a fire staff in the best case scenario at the cost of -33 sanity real isnt anything to write home about.
You cant get rid of red gems fast enough even if u tried once u clear the ruins or reach second autumn.

The lux books perhaps should be added to this list as well. 

Yes they cant be made better than a star caller staff but currently they are so much worse,(too worse) in every way.

Dim light, tiny radius,

-33 sanity cost (vs -20), 

5 max uses (vs 20),

shorter duration (redux= 2 days vs 3.5) 

And no heat (both good and bad)

sleepy time stories is a much better conceived book version of a generic item. Casts much slower, big sanity cost, fewer uses BUT has a much larger range, doesnt require a resource thats only renewable through klaus sack rng, and can be used for BotW farming. 

The only thing Redux has going for it is its available earlier. But not as early as a lantern which literally has about the same radius and brightness.. yellow gems r no trouble to get as wickerbottom. 

if it was cheaper to cast and a lil brighter and wider i would still use it when appropriate over star caller.

I agree with you, and I think the SAN cost of older books should also be reduced. On Tentacles, Birds of the World should be worth only 33san
