Deep Freezer for space travel

Recommended Posts

Somewhat relates to the food packaging suggestion on wanting to preserve other food besides berry sludge on the long term, and that deep freezing in space ship is somewhat unwieldy and requires some exploits ways.

For that reason, I suggest a "Deep Freezer" building.

It would be the same size as a fridge with the following properties.

Food Capacity: 60kg

Solid CO2 capacity: 30kg

Power: 10W

Construction requires 200 kg plastic

The fridge operates by reserving 100g of solid CO2 that perfectly exchange heat with stored food item. The 100g of CO2 is ejected if it reaches gaseous state temperature.

Fridge provides some, but not perfect, insulation with the environment, so that means depending on the environment, CO2 will leak out over time.

Food in fridge is treated as if it's in CO2 environment, that means this freezer can keep food fresh indefinitely as long as solid CO2 is supplied.
